I first met forum member Mike Caruso last October at York. I had posted a few items for sale and offered delivery to York. Mike purchased one of the items and we did meet at York and the exchange was made. Recently I posted some other items again for sale and Mike again made a purchase. These items I did ship them to him. Shortly after, Mike listed an engine for sale that I purchased. I mentioned to Mike that my daughter lives in West Caldwell and teaches in Pequannock, NJ, not far from where he lives. I mentioned there was a possiblity of her picking up the engine from him and thus saving the freight. This came about last Thursday and I was going to be seeing my daughter that next Saturday night at a family wedding in Oceanside Long Island. Mike went on to mention that his father is in a nursing home in West Caldwell near where my daughter lives. I told him that my son is the head physical therapist in a nursing/rehab facility in West Caldwell. Well, his father was not at that facility but had been a short time ago for therapy. Chances are that my son treated him. Anyway, last Thursday, Mike shows up at my daughter's school and gives her the engine (i did not know this was going to happen). We left Cape Cod Saturday AM to attend the wedding on Long Island. That evening, when I saw my daughter, she gave me the engine. Small world.

We really do have some fine people on the Forum. What a nice thing that you have been able to meet and do business. Thanks for sharing the story.
We must have one old sorehead, but he has not been among the Forumites I have met and corresponded with.
Nice story, and it is even better as I have come to know Mike from the Forum. Truly a good guy. And Cape Cod Northern, I look forward to meeting you one of these days.
I made a forum purchase from Mike as well...multiple passes from a zamboni couldn't have made that transaction any smoother than it already was. I'd do it again too.
I have myown story form yesterday, but I don't want to boggart your thread.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. Yes, it is a small world. It's just nice to be able to connect on here and in person with so many "good guys" who've maintained their child-like enthusiasm for all things train-related. Good to know I'm not alone!
And Al, looks as though my Dad will soon be in the capable hands of your son and the rest of the PT staff at West Caldwell. He's in the midst of yet another hospital stay, so when he's released, it will be back to physical therapy. This time when I visit I'll be sure to look Scott up to say hello. (Maybe I should've traded the engine for physical therapy "credit hours" Lighten up that Medicare bill!! )
