Water towers are common in big cities like New York and Chicago.

But the regulation were little different I guess because most of them has a hexagon service platform.

So for Chicago building we create the hexagon platform base in the Old Andersonville Water Tower an icon for the swedish neighborhood.

here is the prototype opinion and criticism are welcome.

Pretty cool - and instructive.  I've lived in Chicagoland all of my life and never realized that our water tanks had (apparently uniformly) hexagonal service catwalks.  My one suggestion for the model would be to paint (or at least weather) the bottom of the support (although the prototype photo you have doesn't show one painted) .  It looks "too new" the way it is, even if it is prototypically correct.

So the hexagon is something unique from Chicago or IL. I am not sure and there is not information about. I hope someone here will tell us more.

Not sure if it's unique to Chicago (Andersonville is a neighborhood within Chicago, not its own city) - but it got me looking at photos on-line for a few minutes (for example, check out this link) and all of the ones I could find that were supported by a structure (as opposed to resting directly on a roof) have a hexagonal catwalk.  In contrast, the photos in that link from New York show no non-circular catwalks.   It cannot be coincidence, so it was likely some sort of now-lost code component.

I also will be looking for these at York! Just an observation, shouldn't there be a pipe from tower to roof ? Maybe I missed it! Love the look!  Bill Smith

Yes, the kit will have the main pipe in the center of the tank. It will be plastic. (not showed in the picture)
