Congratulations to Evan, Max, and the entire staff of RIA. Alan and the OGR staff has a great history of attracting and plugging in young talent to the hobby media. They brought me on board to help with OGR social media when it was very young and through the help of Evan and his group I believe that area will continue to grow and expand in positive ways.

The reality is that Evan and Max are the future of the hobby. I'm looking forward to seeing their involvement and impact in this hobby in the coming years.

Thanks so much Notch 6!  It means a lot to our whole staff.  Max and I could not have done it without the help of Garrett Monnin, Jonah Collins, Clayton Cook, Walker Wood, and Adam Zappacosta.  It's a team effort, not just two people.  Heck, we wouldn't even be around if it wasn't for them!

Derek, You hit the nail on the head!!!!!    We see so many times here on this forum, but on every forum, email list, show, or meet old guys ((I am including myself as an old guy; 50+ years in the hobby, considered a senior by the government)) lamenting that the hobby is dying.  I have never agreed that the hobby is dying.  The hobby as we old guys knew it is perhaps fading a bit.  The hobby is changing.  New niches are arising every year!   Rich and Alan are wise to see that OGR needs to embrace the new niches, as they are the future.

Evan, Max, Garrett, Jonah, Clayton, Walker, Adam, and Derek; you are really on the cutting edge of participating in and promoting the hobby!  I really enjoyed talking with Derek and Max at York!  For that matter, I really get a kick out of seeing the ideas that young folks come up with!  I wish I could come up with new, exciting, workable ideas!

A big thank you to all of you young guns!!!

AND...to address what Mark said above, keep an eye on our December edition Publisher's Corner where I will be talking about our next generation and the RIAM crew in particular along with a detailed account of how OGR and RIAM joined forces....

Looking forward to it, Alan.  We'll also have something in one of our upcoming editions about our partnership as well.  I'm very excited for it all!

Is RIAM issued in both print and digital editions? I can't seem to figure it out from the RIAM website.

Mark

Yes.  Digital editions are $1 and printed copies range in prices.  I would recommend getting our BOGO offer, so you can get a great deal on Edition 5 and 7.  Edition 7 releases tomorrow.  Here is the BOGO DEAL!

If you don't want to place your order online, you can call our sales department at 888-204-0087.

Not sure ordering on-line is all that possible.  When I click on the BOGO DEAL! link, I get this.

The Edition 5/7 BOGO is not available anymore, unfortunately.  You can get the exclusive OGR Forum Member BOGO of Editions 6 and 7 though!  Click here to order.

I received my first copy in the mail yesterday!  It was the one with the Western Maryland F3 #62 on the cover.  How fitting for me, as the Western Maryland is my favorite road.  I have an MTH Premier ProtoSound (PS1) F3 A-B-A set #51 and #52.  Very nice engines.  I plan to upgrade them to PS3 when I get time to install the kits.

I have only started to read the magazine, but after flipping through the pages, I see many articles on great topics.  The photography and layout are great!  I'm looking forward to reading it all and receiving more issues.

Excellent job, gents!!!!

Alan and Evan,

Congratulations on putting this arrangement together.

I agree that this is great news, and that it has the potential of growing the hobby by attracting younger people.

I just ordered the 2 editions to check it out closer.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the kind works! We hope you enjoy!

Thank you!!  I could not have done it without the support of the whole OGR team, and our whole crew over at RIAM!  Thank you for supporting us!  We'll continue improving our work!

Calico, I think you can find answers to your questions at the beginning of this topic.  I'll give the Cliff Notes version.  The magazine was just started last year by a group of young men who are avid railroad and model railroad fans, all in their teens.  They have done a superb job with this venture.  While they have mostly covered prototype railroading, both historic and current, they have also put in each issue an article or two from a modeling perspective.  Now they have teemed up with OGR, and will share some information, which we will have to stay tuned to see what comes of that.  I am very pleased with my the two issues I have purchased.  I suggest you go to the links Evan cited in his last message, and give it a try.

I just got back from my mailbox, and see that Sam (I refer to my postal delivery person as Sam whether it is the young man or young lady driving the delivery car) delivered a post card from Railroading in America magazine telling me a bit about the next edition to be sent out in September. ""Diesel locomotives, model railroading project, Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, exclusive story by Rich Melvin, and much more""

Looks like an excellent, energetic magazine.  Just what I'm looking for.

Unfortunately, the web-site order page is a bit contrary today.  It likes to delete all & every item that I add to the Cart.

Have to try tomorrow.

We're glad that it's what you're looking for!  Sorry for the inconvenience on our site today!  If you experience problems tomorrow, you can always call our customer support team at 888-204-0087 during business hours.  Sadly, we're closed right now!  If you send me a private message over the forum or an email to evancihlar@railroadinginamerica.net with your email address, I can set up free shipping for your troubles.
