Got this at a TCA auction last year along with a set of Repro litho cars. Getting it ready has been a slow process.

I didn’t think to take a overall photo before I started, but did shoot some of the bad areas. Also a prior owner painted the pilots,  frame and trucks a dark flat gray. I repainted them to their original colors. The shell and as much original trim was cleaned the best I could. The headlight hoods were replaced. It is now track ready.

Steve,

Thanks for sharing another project. I get great joy bringing trains like this back to life and even more so in then running them. Looks great, have fun with it!

I seem to remember that many years ago someone came out with a truck kit to make a Lionel #8 look like The AF President engine. Does anyone else remember this? Has anyone seen them around?

I've seen a few 8's with pilots, but just assumed they were home brews.

There is a book that has reprinted some of the articles from "Model Builder" magazine and had an article on how to modify your #8 to resemble the AF loco.
