I just saw on the reserve form that 3rd Rail is taking orders for another round of their scale RDC's.

As with the last order of RDC's, NO DEMO OR AMTRAK. [or Metro North, Reading and Northern, Bellefonte Central, or NYS&W-original or Ontrak versions, etc.] Like me, you will have to order the undecorated model and paint them yourself...Bummer!

For those dissapointed in the offerings, write to Scott M at 3rd rail your scale RDC requests. He may accomodate if he sees the reservation #'s!

Right now, Scott is only going on old data from previous sales. I believe Amtrak is now Hot for Sunset/3rd Rail models! The Amfleet Viewliners put Sunset models over the slump!

If you really want a not-that-popular road name simply get one which is unlettered.  Then add lettering of your choice or leave it blank.   The beauty of this model and it's smooth running coupled with it's operating possibilities make it a choice purchase.

Railway Diesel Cars are great for branch line passenger service.

Purchase hesitation over a road name availability may seem to some like a paper tiger.

Does anyone have any pictures of the previous run? Did they have detailed interiors or was the interior taken up by the motors? I am still becoming familiar with 3rd rail.

The motors are small and contained within the truck itself so no motors stick up into the car body. However there is a grey box that takes up about a third of the interior. This is for the Cruise Commander/ sound board/speaker. The rest of the interior has seats. The interior lighting is interrupted by the gray box with the rest of the interior lit. I thought it looked terrible on mine with this large, dark area so I removed all the lighting.

They have now added the Demo car to the order form.

Funny you mention this! Was just thinking you having the GGD Amtrak RDC @prrhorseshoecurve and how much I wish I had a scale RDC. Unfortunately, undecorated motive power isn't really my thing- don't have the skills(yet), but have been working o some RS. Oh well, GGD will get enough from me with my Amtrak superlunar order and HOPEFULLY with a 2nd run ofviewliners and amfleets!

I really think the RDC1’s (coaches) should also be offered in a non-powered version so we can get a car with full interior detail. I’ll email Scott regarding doing Long Island in the “dashing Dan” scheme and doing non powered RDC1’s.

Scott M already made it clear that non powered models are not much cheaper than powered models. [ maybe $50-$75 cheaper] He learned from his mistake with the FL9 model. The non powered models lingered for years after the powered models sold out. Good luck on your quest.

Scott M has been monitoring this thread. He is well aware of the demand for Amtrak yet to get their license blessing is no easy task. He maybe working on it esp if more people demand the paint scheme.

The Bellefonte Railroad Historic Socitey really owns an RDC but not sure what model it is and has been restored they are working on bringing it home to Bellefonte. They also have a second one that restoration is cost prohibitive as it is my understanding it is at the Bellefonte Train Station that I believe they own or at least operate it is a small museum.
