Just finished this one and it is about to go to north to its new home. The radiator curtain/canvas sunshades are OCB cigarette papers and the spark arrestors are sections of 243 Winchester brass.

Very nice. Excellent modeling
Mike, Thank you. Like you, I really like the Atlas switchers. Malcolm
I always enjoy your attention to detail, especially the radiator cover ties. Just PERFECT scale width. I can almost feel the leather straps.
Great modeling, Malcolm.
That is truely some fine modeling, and a great use of uncommon items to achieve the look you were after. Quick question, regarding the curtains, did you coat the paper with anything? Or leave them bare and just roll them? Either way they look great! I am also a huge fan of the Atlas switchers....great work Malcolm.
Chris,
The canvas sunshades were saturated with ACC and then painted. The radiator curtain was installed and then I applied a couple of drops of ACC for it to absorb. It was attached with hot glue. I placed the hot glue on a piece of paper and touched the curtain to it as to use only a thin thread of the glue.
Thank you, Malcolm
Added the Orange/white version. This one was an x-Mississippi Central unit.
Malcolm
Ok, thanks Malcolm. The orange and white version looks great also, love the "road grime"...nice touch.
Malcom -
Well done, brother! The overhead view of the orange & white shows off a nicely-reworked radiator. The black model shows your trademark hint at a spinning radiator fan. Keep the faith and never look back over your shoulder at HO.
Wow.....Malcolm! ........so nice! love 'em! You sure do have the "touch".......how's the family? Tom in PGH
Wonderful work, Malcolm, It's great to see such fine work on I. C. models.

How many elves work on your assembly line?
Malcolm,
Atlas has an offering of SW's due late this year. You may want to stock a few of the undecorated models and replenish some of the depleted part. You do a wonderful job with this beauties. Current offering of the Atlas SW9 have TMCC and the ERR electronic drive system. Original Atlas SW's had Dallee electronics and then a Train America Studio's TMCC system until recent offerings.

Malcolm, I really think it was a stroke of genious to use cig wrappers for screening. Did you hear about it B4 or did it come in your dreams. I don't think I could have put 2 and 2 together for that job as cig wrappers haven't been in my neighborhood for some 45 yrs. Especially to use such a fragil product and then to stiffen it up with a wash of ACC so the fabric form holds its appeal and not get destroyed by an accidental brush.

Malcom, your the best! I picked up that cigarette paper tip from you years ago. Still doesn't compare to the way you achieve the look.
Years back I made a regular trip over to the IC shops in East St. Louis for pictures. I have to say that your looks better than theirs.
Thank you all very much! The idea for paper was not mine. I found it somewhere and the original method used tissue paper. It always looks rough after the glue is applied. One day when checking out at grocery store I saw the cigarette papers and tried them. They remain smooth after ACC is applied.
Thanks again, Malcolm
SWEET!!!!
Beautiful work Malcolm,
Ralph
Malcolm,
Were these the projects you needed the lift rings for? Did Atlas finally get some in? I'm in need of 2 lift rings and 6 eyelets for my conversion.
BTW, beautiful job on the engines.
Bob
I can almost hear the flanges squealing against the rail as the second one descends down the siding near the house I grew up in.
Love the switchers. (I'm a sucker for switchers!) Great work and I picked up a tip, to boot!
A great model! I like IC!
Wow. Excellent work.

I really like your touch for the weathering. Perfect!
Great craftsmanship.
Malcolm, Incredible work as always!
What decals did you use for the orange and white engine?
Engine looked fantastic!
Looking for the newer white and orange. Will switch from HO to O if I can find decals for the SW9.
Your emgine looks fantastic!
Lovely !
Great job as usual!
In France this kind of engine is nicknamed "yoyo" (like the toy), because they come and go on very short distances in the yards or sidings!
