Another TMCC Odyssey Problem

You'd want a Cruise Commander M. It replaces the factory motor driver board. There is usually a bit of wiring required but it drops right in otherwise.

Replacing the flywheel involves a puller of some kind. In all honesty you're better off with the CCM than replacing the odyssey magnet. With the CCM you'll get 100 speed steps and better control.

I would second a Cruise M. You can replace the magnet along with what Lionel calls a fixit flywheel but you risk damaging the motor trying to remove the flywheel if you don’t have a proper puller. The stock flywheel is an interference fit. The fixit flywheel is a sliding fit with a set screw. A Cruise M while more expen$ive is far less of a headache.

The second problem with the Lionel "fix-it" flywheel is the seat area for the magnet ring is cut the wrong size, it's too small!  If you use the fix-it flywheel, you have to carefully shim the magnet ring with spacers to get it even and then then glue it in place.  I've taken to pulling the old flywheel and mounting the new magnet ring on it, then pressing it back in place.  Cheaper in parts and the original flywheel seat area is the correct size for the magnet ring.

The ERR cruise M, as others have mentioned is the route to go. It’s leaps and bounds over Oddesy. There is one catch though, sometimes the ERR Cruise M can mess with the serial data used to drive the IR sensors for the wireless drawbar. There are a couple of methods to deal with this. Sometimes it’s a problem, sometimes not,....but there are solutions to keep the signal going.......the Cruise M is a better “fix it” then Lionel’s “fix it” .......😉

You likely won't need any serial booster as your engine has a 3 wire buffered tether LED. The two wire LEDs usually cause a problem when adding a Cruise M cured by replacing it with a 3 wire.
