Not $100, but I did pick up 3 SD40-2's made by Weaver from an NJ hi-railer member at York in April 2016 for $110 each. Those are getting custom painted at the moment...
I think I managed to pick up an RMT Bang S-4 for $99 at one time--
I got a RailKing F3 for $110 off Ebay, used the motors and PS2 guts to power an unpowered Atlas GP9. The price of the dummy GP9, F3, and necessary drive gearing was still less than the price of a powered GP9.
Through the years, there have been three WbB engines purchased for less than $100. Two were NIB @ $85 ea.
My best deal was a NIB Lionel 0-6-0 (gratis) that was accompanied by a "Thank You" note for a large FasTrack order.
Several TMCC locos for under 100.
My son bought a then-current-production Lionel Lines 0-6-0 docksider NIB from a retailer about 4 years ago for less than $90.
I have a number of them. Some were ready to go....others needed a $50 Dallee DCRU to work. One was a $99 WbB 4-6-0 from a big internet train dealer when they went under.
All the time, but most of them are not worth anywhere close to $100 retail.
Marx engines are as low as $15, postwar "projects" locos $40 and American Flyer $50 or so.
Modern era K-line and lionel sets $40-80, some even new in original boxes.
Swap meets and train club shows are the best hunting grounds for me.
Quite a few, all conventional. Lionel Docksider, scale USRA 0-8-0, and starter set 0-8-0, 2 Williams NW2s, one for 39 bucks. Semi scale K-Line Hudson, Williams traditional GG1.
Also at least as many Post War engines.
Pete
WOW!!You guys are fast.I knew I would get some reply but not this fast.Marx trains are pretty good trains.Came across a marx steamer.Any way keep em coming guys.
I got a century club Berkshire mint in the box plus a coast guard set for 30 dollars
I got a Williams diecast scale Hudson from Uberstationmeister on the forum for either $60 or $80, can't remember. That was a smokin' deal. I always look at his for sale posts now.
For a while I was picking up the 1998 Lionel with TMCC in it for less that $75 as no one wanted them. in fact I think I got one for about $50. About a year ago I got the Paul Revere GP-9 for $100
A few years back I got a 2037 with a whistle tender for $80 shipped right here on this forum. Not perfect cosmetically but close enough for me and a great runner. I can't remember what member I bought it from though.
Sure. I've snagged some PW steamers -- think in terms of a 2055 or something similar -- for $100 or less. Including the tender. Decent shape, too.
I got a sweet MTH Mohawk for 85 bucks! The electronics were stripped out but it runs smooth as silk and pulls well!
How about a USA Trains (Large Scale) PA? It was under the table covered with dust off the main room in the Orange Hall at York several years ago. $100. Everything works fine. One day I'll add the other AB pair to it...
There have been some other good deals at $100 but this one stands out.

Wow! C.Sam, smokin' deal. There are some really good deals on large scale stuff out there. I scored a like new in the box USA Trains Southern Pacific Daylight F3 for $ 75.00 and this Aristocraft Mikado in the box for $ 100.00 from the same guy. I didn't even bargain, I just paid him what he asked. When I got home I found a Phoenix Sound manual in the box and discovered the Mikado has Phoenix Sound. One of my best scores.
Ain't it fun!

Oh, I forgot about the free Lionel GP9 JonZ sent me to evaluate how it ran under DCS. He also sent a CAB-1 Lite system to evaluate.
Still have both, repainted the beep from Wabash to SAL #1912 in lime green color, the only GP9 to get that paint scheme. Haven’t used the CAB-1 Lite since converting to BPRC.
I dont look for engines much anymore.
But i got three nice hudson railking steam engines new ob at york a year ago for$255. A NYC, UP, and C&O.
Got a williams virginian fm test run for $35 at last york
Got the lionel bnsf sd70 lnob, lionel sf F3 a-unit lnob, and a mth SP sd-90 (i think) ln but no box, $200 for all three.
I typically don't look for anything in particular, just open to good deals when available.

and on and on and on. Tons of 224's, 1666's 249E, 264/5E's, 253, etc... on and on and on. Now that I think about it the short list would be how many engine's did I pay more than 200 or 300 bucks for.
RMT Beef ABA set for $98 is probably my best score.
Counted 27 Lionel locomotives purchased for less than $100 but only one for exactly $100.
What, me worry?
Yes actually, quite a few. A Weaver U25B, $85.00. A Williams Tuscan GG1 $89.00, A Williams 682 Turbine knockoff $44.00, a Weaver VO-1000 $47.00, an MTH GP-30 $71.00, an MTH GP-9 $50.00. Pljus a lot of Post war locos.
As a note, all these were bought used, thru various auction sites and Forum purchases.

Being a retired disabled veteran on a fixed income, price is an important factor to me
Yes, my folks gave me a brand new 0-4-0 Marx Winder for Christmas 1937.
Does free count? i got a full Polar Express set, PS2 remote, and a PS2 railking challenger for free, also an original 1930s 262E, a k-line FM trainmaster, and 4 k-line cars. My cousin is very very nice guy incase you couldn't tell
Yes, actually it was recently. I was at the Big Little RR Shop as they were closing down. She had an older Weaver brass steam locomotive with sound but no Command Control. I couldn't believe the price was only a $100 so even though it was 3 rail I had to buy it. You don't see a scale nicely detailed locomotive at that price very often.
Sure did, and I regret getting rid of it. Bought an MTH PS1 GM&O GP40 from 1997 for $100 including tax. Came with original box and manual, ran very well. Dual motors were very powerful. Boy did it pull and fly at 18 volts.
YES about 7 years ago a guy shows up at our club looking to unload some trains from a family members estate. There were a lot of bargains in the trunk of his car and for $100 I got an MTH Premiere Southern Pacific SD40, with less that 1 hour run time on it.
Two. This one for $125 a floor crash model.
This one for $80. A major electronics upgrade with used parts. Click on the underlined phrases for slideshows.
Also a couple of older Weaver C630's that required electronics an electro-couplers with some lighting, each was $100 or less.
Older set of Weaver E8's was $225 for the set. Extensive upgrade. Another fun project.
I got my near-mint Marx 333 and three NYC illuminated tinplate passenger cars for $125. And a 999 for $20, and a 666 for $50.
My Lionel 6220 cost me $35, but that was 'way back in the Seventies, so it doesn't count. However, its sister 623 was only $70 when I bought it last fall. Those were the only Lionel locomotives that cost me under $100.
Other than that, no, my Lionel/Williams 3rs locomotives all cost way in excess of $100.
just sold a Dash-9 for $110. new owner Philo426 is going to repaint it in "the fugliest paint scheme I can find" can't wait to see it!
Sure, Atlas CNJ RS-1, williams cnj gp-9, MTH pcc car, 2 rail Atlas sw-9. From what I observe there is a lot to chose at the low end of the price scale and a great deal of very expensive full of bells and whistles and smoke at the high end. Now that I think about it, Williams Amtrak E-60 for under $100, Atlas AEM-7 $110, some post war stuff.
I'm pretty sure I picked up my K-Line TMCC GG1 for that price. I've gotten several others at or below that too.
