All,

Lionel has made it clear that they will not be issuing licenses for companies to make an after factory Legacy Control/Sound upgrade kit.  The Electric Railroad systems have proven to be excellent over the past 4 years or so we have been leading with their kits.  We had to stop doing MTH PS3 upgrades due to the kits we received being DOA - maybe we had bad luck with the MTH boards.  We have upgraded 100's of engines to TMCC, PS2 and PS3. This is one thing our Service Department specializes in.  We hired actual Circuit Board Techs who love train repair.

Our shop is hard to beat when it comes to upgrades.  The current kits are TMCC with the appropriate sound card (RailSounds).  You can also add Cruise Control -- Like Odsssey.  Note: Cruise Control can only be added to engines with DC Motors.  No Cruise Control for AC engines.

Our FULL TMCC Installation will give your older trains a technology make-over.  We install the kits so they can be removed without leaving much of a trace if the modification impacts the value of the engine.  You can enjoy running TMCC and Railsounds on your engine and then convert it back if you want to sell it as original.  If you buy a package from us, the kits and installation, we will perform your "return to original" service for free (offer good for 72 months from the time you get the upgrade).

The base TMCC kit installed is only $239.00.  You can add Sound and Cruise Control to the package for a little more.  Our techs who perform the upgrades are extremely detailed - You will be blow away at how clean the wiring is. The Engines we upgrade look factory, we are very careful, highly skilled, experienced and perform clean, precision work on all service, repairs and upgrades.

Most of our conversions are MTH PS1 Engines to TMCC w/RS4.  Yes, a Lionel Control System in an MTH engine.  Our installations of the TMCC are solid and last.  We really only like to use Electric RR parts, but will upgrade engine to MTH PS3 with a signed agreement re: the MTH parts and warranty.  We ask you to consider the TMCC with RS4 upgrade vs. the PS3 Upgrade.  In the end, the MTH DCS System can still run the TMCC w/RS5 engines.  The TMCC upgrade therefore works with both MTH DCS and Lionel TMCC.  And the Electric RR kits are MUCH less than a PS3 kit.

Note: We are doing 4-5 upgrades a week these days. We have people ship the engines in from around the World for Service/Upgrades.  Return shipping to you is always free in the US.  There is an 6 day backlog on upgrades right now (the promo we are running is working (well) so factor in an extra week for us to get the Engine back to you.

Nice and good to know. I wish that Lionel had more sound files for their Railsounds. IT kinda sucks when trying to RS a Gp35 and GP38 one has to use the GP7/9 sound board. There are differences in the sounds of the second gen  locos to first Gen Locos.

Same boat for me.  I'm so happy they have a steam turbine sound now so I can upgrade my MTH PS-1 S-2, but my Doodlebug and trolley won't get upgraded as there is no sounds for small street electrics or gas engines.  I also have a PRR T-1 and SP Cab Forward that I want to upgrade, but then they'd both sound the same with there only being one articulated steam sound set.

Looks like you guys both missed the boat on that one.  Lionel does indeed sell lots of RailSounds 4 boards:

Sounds for GP40 and SD40 are available and those should work for a GP35 or 38.  They also sell the sound boards from both the scale PRR T1 #5511 and the PRR S1 duplex.  I have used the T1 and S1 boards in some of my locomotive conversions.

The catch today is that you need to have a RailSounds 4 motherboard and possibly the power board (depending on which motherboard you have).  The sound motherboard that Electric RR sold before they transitioned to the new, smaller RailSounds are great.  The problem now is finding motherboards, not the sound boards.

I truly like the Williams by Bachman 40 ton switcher but its only conventional control so if I bought this engine you can convert it to full TMCC command control? When I first heard it came out and saw the review I was ready to jump and buy one but then found out its only conventional control and then I lost interest in it
