Since we started selling trains we get a lot of people coming in the door with train repair issues. I try to help them if I can. Yesterday we had a young man with his Mom and an inherited American Flier set come in. The trains were well preserved but the engine wasn't running. Applying power to it, the motor turned, but slowly, and with the occasional stop. I thought I would try to pull the body off, clean it, etc and see if that helped at all, but I couldn't figure out how to get the engine's shell off. There was a cotter pin I removed, but that didn't free it. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
