The recent FEF-3 detail issues have really cooled any interest I would have in commiting to buy any new Lionel regardless of price, until after seeing the actual delivered product.

Sometimes I think people are seeing things that aren't there when in reality they are re-manufacturing the same previously tooled products. They just replace the electronics, upgrade the sound, and maybe add an extra smoke gadget.  And that's ok,  We get something we missed out on a while back and they can make a decent buck. (If it is done right or previous egregious errors are corrected).

This could be a good thing for something like the Niagara because we've seen it before.  An actual previous positive example of this was the recent 4-12-2 re-release.

If they are going to restore some goodwill they are going to have to deliver a real winner.  I think they're capable of it (Milwaukee Rd 261 comes to mind). I'll wait and see.

Time for some SP Daylight F-3's w/Legacy. Was a hot item when they came out in the 80's. Haven't been made since.

Agree. It's also quite remarkable that Lionel hasn't done any scale Legacy F-3 Warbonnets yet.

Actually they did make a set of Warbonnets in legacy around 2010 or so. http://www.lionel.com/products...333-dmy-2335-6-34573

Well spotted - I for one missed that set but it will almost certainly have the early Legacy boards. I reckon they are saving the F3s for a Vision Line issue; I don't think that will be in this catalog.

Nope. These are not the scale versions. These were from the Postwar scale series. As the catalog states, they are based on the Postwar decor versions of the F-3s. They are not the real scale versions like the previous TMCC scale ones Lionel did.

They are decorated like Lionel's Postwar versions, with the same abbreviated features; for example, they don't have proper MARS lights, they don't have the proper yellow paint striping that goes up over the top of the hood to the windshield, etc.

Unfortunately they are the only SF F3s Lionel has done in Legacy.  You take what you can get sometimes.

Yes, sometimes. I decided to wait, though. Hard to believe, but it's been 9 years since the last Santa Fe scale Fs were offered (F-7s cataloged in 2007).  The Warbonnets are Lionel icons, so it would seem they can't space them too far apart. It's reasonable to think Legacy Warbonnets should be along any time now.

Not a bad price... Street price should be under $1000

I guess what your opinion of bad is. The last run with the standard tender sold for just over $700. David will be all over this one.

Now you have an o-36 Loco that requires an o-54 radius because of the large tender. This will narrow the market substantially

Hold out and wait for the discounts on these next year.

I got my legacy K-4 New in the box on eBay last year at a steal for $400 so I guess the costs will ofset

I don't think it's too bad...

A lot of things were cheaper in 2011! Heck look at the vision line offerings in 2011! And I could care less about the radius it will require. Anyone complaining about radius requirements on a scale item should probably stick to running lion chief anyway.
