Hi All,
I've been refreshing the atlas production schedule page daily looking for when the genesis might start shipping. Anyone hear any updates?
Thanks,
Dan

Word is early July they'll be here!
just got 3 of them that I ordered Unfortunately 1 is DoA (engine runs but audio is choppy) already speaking with atlas on getting it fixed
Sorry about the DOA. How’s the fit and finish of the units?
Absolutely amazing, they did a fantastic job (like always) on the paint and labels and stuff.
Will you post some pictures, please?
Videos (these are with some lionel amfleets):

And 108, which is what needs to be fixed, engine is beautifully detailed though :
Nice looking! That 108 looks to be a stunner! I caught her on the Lake Shore one night, and you wouldn’t think the red & blue would do it justice. But she’s a cutie.
thanks for posting!
Rumor is that JR has three Genesis in stock, I’m going to head over this weekend and take a look. Don’t know which numbers…

Yup! We have some extra #173's in stock. There are more coming soon from Atlas including the scale 2-rail locomotives.
Thanks all!
I see that Atlas updated the paint scheme to the modern version of the Phase V, where the red reflective stripe and dark gray paint are lower on the body than my MTH version.
thanks!

@CentralFan1976 I think only 84 has the red/gray so high up, I have 99 and 202 which are MTH PS3 engines and the line is lower https://www.youtube.com/watch?...amp;feature=youtu.be
That’s pretty cool! Thanks for sharing! I may have to pick one up, I like subtle detail differences like that.
I did change the sound file so it’s Empire Service #281. IMHO it has the best version of the horn. I caught #283 here at Rome with both an Amtrak P42DC and 700-Series P32ACDM; the latter must have had issues.
15 minutes later I also saw the EB Maple Leaf come in with two P42s like yours, as it had extra cars.
Thanks!

173 has a few other differences ive noticed:
Some details are painted red on the underbody
Some of the antenna detail on the roof is different, and painted differently
The fan is painted blue, on the other mth ones its silver
The blue paint is a bit lighter in color
Theres additional labels and stickers like builders plates and stuff
All in all its a beautiful engine

Yes and be aware that the blue is a different shade too. Not really a problem in your case. If you ordered one, you'd have the current Phase Vb and the OG Phase V. They'd look fine together.
It looks a bit off if you pair it with an MTH engine that's supposed to be the current Phase Vb. That was the first thing I noticed besides the addition of many separately-applied roof details (electronics/antennae etc).
I think it would look right at home with your OG genesis or any of MTH's anniversary models.
I have a pair of MTH's PS3 versions from 2017, and they also have differences between them related to their respective prototypes, The units have different color road numbers on the nose (black numbers on white background for #202 and the inverse on #99), and different color horns (one has blue horns, the other silver).
I did order two units from the AtlasO run, the #100 (midnight blue) and #108 (Phase VI), they should be on their way tomorrow and possibly arrive Wednesday.

Hey CCAL! Been too long buddy! How are things?
You are correct, there are different blues between the runs and #84 is from the 2019 run, same as the Phase VI (IVb) plated Amfleets and I do believe the mellower blue is accurate.
I’m assuming the new Atlas run matches this run, correct?
Eventually we’ll get over and compare them… like I did the Atlas & MTH F40PHs.
Thanks!

One other difference I have found between the Atlas version and the MTH version is - the rear number boards on the Atlas version are lighted when the engine is powered up where on the MTH version, they are not lighted when the engine is powered up. I have compared the Atlas version (I have road number 100 and 175) versus the MTH versions from 2017 (I have road number 99 and 202) and from 2019 (road number 84).
I agree with the slightly but noticeable difference in the shades of blue and other details. However, if you really really want to see a difference in the shades of blue - look at the color of blue on the special run MTH did for Walthers in 2004. The blue is way too dark and looks really bad when compared to the later MTH Genesis engines and the just released Atlas Genesis. However, the dummy version of the MTH/Walthers 20-2528-3 (Cab #193) is very rare and hard to find plus I think that is the only Phase V Genesis dummy that MTH ever made. Yes, I still have the dummy but sold the power unit because it was a PS2 5 volt board that I got worried about failing. The MTH/Walthers maybe looks ok when I run it behind something the MTH "Pepsi" version of the Dash8BW and the MTH 40th edition of the Phase III Genesis but is still is obviously the wrong shade of blue.
Here is a quick picture showing how obvious the MTH dummy from 2004 has the wrong shade of blue.
Front - MTH #193 Dummy from 2004
Next - Atlas #175 just released
Next - MTH #84 from 2019
Back - MTH #202 from 2017
This picture doesn’t show the small differences between the shades of blue on the other Genesis engine because I made no effort to correctly light the picture for my cellphone picture. 😊

My other Phase V is the infamous Walther's number 204. It's a beautiful shade of blue that has nothing to do with Amtrak. It may be yours! I bought it on eBay last year. I was excited to have anything in Phase V. That said, I'm planning on doing almost exactly what you suggest. Upon seeing my Atlas version, I decided the Atlas version will work alone on the Downeaster and the MTH version will double-head with my 40th Anniversary engine (Phase I) on the Silver Service. It won't look too bad at all. There's always a way to put it to work.
If the board fails, 204 will become a dummy and hang out with my Atlas Dash-8s -they've been looking for a P42 to play with.
I look forward to my Sunset Models order too (but I don't look forward to that invoice ).

This is a great photo. I can totally see that these blues are closer than I thought, thank you for posting. I am willing to say that there’s more variation in the blues on the prototypes than the differences between them here.
I can see a bigger difference between the AEM-7 and my P42DC… But I live with it because I have different cars that I use for each engine.
With that said... Check this out.
Thanks, all!

On a side note if anyone is looking to sell their MTH amtrak 84 engine please let me know
I dont think TW got any 175's in since my preorder is still pending, I got 173 in.
What soundset is on 175? on 173 its the pennsylvanian (#43)
Sound Sets on latest releases...
Midnight Blue Genesis #100 is "Train Number 350 - The Wolverine"
Regular Genesis #175 is "Train Number 20 - The Crescent"
oo the crescent that'll be a nice one
to round it out Pepsitrak (#108) is also a Pennsylvanian but train 42 instead of 43

Stock, #84 is the Texas Eagle, but I had the team @JR Junction Train & Hobby change it over to Amtrak / NY State Empire Service #281.
Because it says "This stop is Utica"!
Here's the stock sounds:
Thanks!

Which dealer did you get 175 from? I'm hoping trainworld hasn't gotten their 175's yet cause otherwise it might mean my pre-order isn't going to get filled for that one

I Love It!
I ordered the 2R Phase III Pepsi... It'll match my original P32-8BWH and my new Atlas 2-rail & MTH F40PHs! With that said, I'll run it with the Phase IVb Amfleet cars.
The Phase V (Capstone) cars are a VERY nice touch; I have them from the special run the NST did... I'm a big fan.
Thanks!

I purchased my Genesis #175 from C.T. McCormick Trains in Pennsylvania but their online site doesn't list it as in stock at this time.

Thank you for sharing, I am not too sure how I feel about the pilot. Did atlas include a plow?
@TheRambles posted:Thank you for sharing, I am not too sure how I feel about the pilot. Did atlas include a plow?
Good point. Yes it included a plow and 3R rollers in a bag.
heres to hoping more 175s come in! Trainworld also delisted it from their website but my preorder was in by the deadline so hopefully they'll all come in
@TheRambles posted:Thank you for sharing, I am not too sure how I feel about the pilot. Did atlas include a plow?
I was really concerned when I saw photos of the pre-production samples but this is better. With that said, it looks like it sits too far forward. If you look closely, the body mold curves up at the corner, which is why you can see the top of the pilot.
Compare to Amtrak Pepsi can #160.
@ESPEE 8722 posted:
I ordered the #160 in 2-rail, and the black pilot might help hide how it sits at the corner of the body. Some investigation might be in store to see if I could slide it back. Either way, with the plow, it's not a deal breaker.
I also might try and mount a grab iron to it, as well.
Thanks everyone, again... Great thread!

2 rail Midnight Blue:
I’m still waiting for a 173, but Mr. Muffin told me Atlas only shipped a partial. Seeing one above is kind of annoying, but I guess he’s trying to ship everyone something…
Here's another photo with the plow, definitely looks more prototypical with it. Photos are from Charlottesville, VA in 2014, second is Rocky Mount, NC in 2019.

YES! that looks soo much better! I'm getting the 3-rail version, and I wonder if parts will be available to convert the pilot.

I assume he shipped based on when preorders were placed? I ordered mine right after they were announced, so maybe that was the difference.

I picked my 175 up from trainworld last week. It arrived on June 16. But maybe there are more on the way? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

gah! I hope you're right, i picked up my 3 genesis last week but 175 still says preordered, when did you place your preorders?
Yes, we received partial shipments too. The rest will be coming in soon.
Here is my share, I received 2 rail versions #173 and #175. Had a bit of a problem with both units, the coupler mount front and rear. The stamped metal frame was warped a little, making the couplers too low. Took the body off and bent the frame back in shape, bends just with bear hands. Installed the Kadees (the holes where in the correct location) and the snow plows. Now all is well. The blue color is a little different but I like it better. They run smooth.
