Anybody .... goes to York to find items for Others...?

I never had someone ask me to do that. The ones I know go to York too but if they ask me to be on the lookout for something I do that. If by chance someone asked me to buy for them I would want to make sure that if I could not contact them while at York that they would still want that item. Also they would have to give me a maximum price they want to pay for the item and what condition would be acceptable to them. I have been a member of the TCA since 1989 and that has never hapened to me.......Paul 2

Re the scenario in the first post, most non-dealer members don't take credit cards.  From the seller's viewpoint, I wouldn't want to get in the middle of something like that anyway.  (A few folks in blue/silver do; why are they not required to be in the dealer halls?)

I've picked up new items for friends that I trust.  Doubt that I'd do it for a used item, as condition is highly subjective, and I wouldn't want to be blamed for not noticing a defect on something.

It's too hard to look for things at York for someone else.  I wouldn't do it.

Personally, I would not ask someone to do that for me. Why not ? Because there is now something called eBay. Searching in itself can be very time consuming. Worrying "will he like it?" on top of that...no thank you. Guess I'm not the saint that some of you are.

Never had anyone ask.  If it was a mob rolling stock item it would be simpler.   But a used item or an electronic item i think i would be hesitant or have the money up front.  So much to be wrong or not working 

no way...what the O.P. has proposed ....who would want to get in the middle of a mess like that?....too many things to go wrong...

I have some Pennsy cars and a couple of engines l picked up for a friend who soon retired, with less to spend...l need to sell, and that was a few years ago.

I don't think it is a good idea if you are talking about a used item.  One has enough looking to do for oneself.   I picked up an item once when the item was a part at the MTH parts booth.  I was stopping there for myself anyway.  Don't ask and put a friend on the spot.
