I would like to see some new tankers come out.

I'm thinking about a 19,600 gallon tanker in particular. MTH has some tankers that come close to this, but are still "toyish" in appearance. I realize this is a modern tanker, but I hope someone will look into it. And if this is done, how about some shelf couplers on it as it IS a MODERN tanker.

No. I like "old" tank cars from the steam era.

Same here. Pretty much confined to 8000 and 11,000 gal. types from the steam/early diesel era. Really like all the colors and interesting logos on these earlier cars, and they fit into smaller layouts much better, of course.

For ultra-large modern tankers, you might check out some of the earlier Atlas O offerings on the secondary market - they did some large, modern tankers, I believe.

Yep...if it's the wine-o's....the multi-dome (e.g., 6-domer) tankers emblazoned with winery names....

Roma Tank

TMK, they've only been done by folks like Sunset 3rd Rail.  I should think they'd be as popular and 'ripe' for special runs of private distilleries....like the  ubiquitous, never-ending plethora of beer reefers!!

Hey, in this day-and-age of home-brews, craft-brews, etc., etc.,.......why not?

The domer the better.......IMHO, of course!

KD

.....another 'dome' idea.

I would like to see modern tank cars in O-Scale, preferably those used for transporting crude oil. I don’t like models of obsolete tank cars.

Well, over on the "Real Trains" forum there was a thread entitled "CSX Having A Bad Week", in which was a comment...

"Why does it seem that most of the derailments are tank cars with hazardous materials and it's always near a residential neighborhood?"

So....seems to me that a train of 6-domers full of vino would not only have a better reputation, but a derailment thereof would be...PARTY TIME!!!!!

I mean, in the spirit of Lionel's quest for animation, awesome sound, quitchy-catchy-corny, maybe the next round of modern tankers should be....VISION LINE!?!?!

After all, we've had 'break-down' and 'hot-box' rolling disasters, why not a set of modern tankers that randomly come to a halt accordian-style, complete with sound of sirens/explosions, screams of neighborhood evacuees fleeing for their lives, smoke generators pumping out plumes of  fumes, flashes of light, ......etc., etc., etc..

Nah.  New tankers?.......make mine vintage!

I'm in for modern too. I bought the Atlas release of the Occidental Chem. cars last time and like how they look. I believe I have all the brands of modern now. There are some models I still have not bought yet. I try to imagine that they are all still currently running. It's always funny when a modern car comes with older style trucks!

Lionel has some nice looking cars too although they can be tougher to make into 2 rail versions.

Wow, I bet you won't fly on a plane after watching the news then.

I wonder how many tank cars moves are without incident?

I won’t be using my 2-rail cars to haul crude oil & I don’t think you would use models of your obsolete tank cars to haul wine around your layout. So I care about capturing the looks of the cars I see around me, in 2-rail, not the commodity, the real cars carried . But obsolete tank cars look weird with their ugly rivets, goofy-looking trucks & 1 or more vertical expansion dome (s), so big that they look like something from an old Tom & Jerry cartoon when Tom gets bumps on his head.

These are just my opinion,

Thanks,

I pulled tank cars or hazardous cars all over the railroad 160 miles a day five or 6 days a week for 37 years and never had one derail on the mainline but the reason it seems like tanks always derail, mite be because most all freight trains have tank cars in them.

That was the thought that occurred to me. Besides, out of the thousands of tank cars that travel every day, and the handful that derail, and the even smaller amount that break, how many actually have something that would require a town to evacuate? Right -- an insignificant number when you look at the overall. The only reason it makes news is because it's so unusual.

I am modeling 1940, so I am not a customer for "new" tankcars on roller bearing trucks.....but want those "goofy" trucks mentioned above, along with black GATX and UTLX 8-12000 gallon ones, AND a Frontier Oil tank car or cars, and for those other defunct regional oil companies  from that pre-WWII period.  Modern?  As I've heard in eastern Kentucky, "I ain't buyin' nair'n".  As for wine cars for new brands, since Atlas generally stayed away from fantasy cars for reefers, maybe they can be entrusted to NOT build any fantasy tank cars?  I can be entrusted to not buy any.  (but it is a nuisance to have to do the research to see if the thing is a model of a real car or not)

I still think the OGR needs a forum for "What I Want" so the manufacturers can go right to that thread and pick up all their marketing information for free.  It would certainly help centralize the wants and desires of the O gauge community.  Maybe even have a pull down box for you to enter how many you would buy and what road names.

In my opinion, the manufacturers really could care less about "What I want." threads on the OGR Forums. The manufacturers learn a LOT more from their dealers, and from direct contact with customer at all the various "Toy Train Shows" across the nation. Those Worlds Greatest Hobby shows are FULL of information, and they are ALWAYS packed!

Oh, I think that they might learn a lot about their customers..........

If they provided what people actually want, they might get even more customers...!! Rather a radical idea, I know, but worth a shot, maybe??!!??

Well, they could do that if the 22 people that want something specific were willing to pick up the tab for all of the production costs and a smidge of profit......

Wait.  Maybe those same 22 people should just go into business for themselves.......

I hope Alan gets his wish but I too prefer the late steam era.  Specifically I like to see a car in the older Hooker paint scheme.

Hooker tank

Atlas O did this one a number of years ago. It was a special run for Petersen Supply. Probably pretty hard to find now, but you can keep an eye out for one. I run mine next to an orange Hooker tank car - they look interesting together.

99% of all derailments don't make the news because no one gets hurt and there is no significant property damage.   Let one catch fire or spill its guts and all the world starts reporting.
