Since this month is national Autism Awareness/Acceptance month, here are my custom painted Lionel 2243 F3's. Done by Christine Braden(CJB Custom Painting). Both are powered and have QSI reverse units set up so one starts up in forwards and the other in reverse. The engines were donated to me and the paint work was done at a very affordable price. Just another chance for me to say thank you and help raise awareness/acceptance of those of us on the spectrum. Mike the Aspie

If someone here can custom paint tinplate and achieve the nice high gloss shine of the vintage pieces, wants to take on a freight car painted for Autism Awareness, please PM me or post here. Would love to do up a prewar car to pull with my nice prewar B6 switcher set I got with my birthday money yesterday. But I want a high gloss tinplate finish and not the matte finish on my F3s. Thanks Mike the Aspie
Awareness and more importantly, acceptance, of our many brothers and sisters on the autism spectrum is essential for our civilized society! As a former public school teacher, I have had the opportunity to work with many children who needed understanding and encouragement from adult mentors. One of my favorite new TV shows is The Good Doctor, which portrays a fictonal high-performing autistic surgeon sympathetally played by Freddie Highmore, who is also the executive producer.
Excellent show. I am also high functioning, work at a large factory in material handling. And yes, tollerance, understanding and acceptance is highly needed across the board in today's society. Mike the Aspie
I wonder how many other of our forum members would be willing to share their experiences with any family members who are on the spectrum?
I have found that many of our fellow model railroaders are on the spectrum, some diagnosed, some not but suspect they are. Trains are a huge draw to many of us that are on the spectrum. Mike the Aspie
I have always had some form of obssessive-compulsive disorder, where I require things to be arranged in a certain way. If I display an engine or cars, I actually count the exposed ties on each end of the track to make certain it is perfectly centered. On any model freight train, ALL cars have their brake wheels facing forward! I require neatness and order in my trainroom and in other aspects of my life. Often, my OCD tendencies make me inefficient in performing tasks. The upside of my condition is it keeps me from being a "slob"! LOL!
Spot on the CBS Evening News this past week addressed employers giving autistic adults a chance. Surprised to hear some estimate unemployment rate for adults with autism is as high as 80%.
That is good news!
