I guess I'll go to the Carlisle Car show instead. Same weekend and it's on!

That's not quite right...
Following an Eastern Division board meeting this past Wednesday, the York Visitors Bureau was notified that the TCA York show was cancelled for April.
The YVB then e-mailed the area hotels on Wednesday evening to inform them of the cancellation.
I have confirmed the above with the Eastern Division, but I'm at a loss for why they haven't notified members and dealers yet.
TRW
They will notify the members and dealers next week.
Are the prepaid passes that were for April 2020 going to be honored for October 2021?
Will the vendors who prepaid their tables and booths for April 2020 be honored for October 2021? Those folks paid for the upcoming show at the previous one so their money has been held by EDTCA now for almost 2 years.
I would hope that October 2021 can occur. It would be a blessing for all of us.
Sorry to hear about this. Really starting to miss the train shows. Although due to health issues in my family may not have been able to go any way.
Keep your fingers crossed for October, but certainly don't count on it at this point.
No surprise and the right move. If I was a betting man, I'd say we have a 60/40 chance of Oct happening. All depends on how the vaccine rollout over the next eight months goes.

I believe there's a car show in the fall too so I think I'm covered.

I still have mine floating on the envelope it came in on my bookcase I believe. Hopefully they do, or give options if you can't make whatever they are able to do.

Agreed. At one time I would have never even considered October 2021 as being in jeopardy but I think it's fair to say that it's as likely to be off as it is on. We'll see.
Now, I am having a case of the Mondays.
I was hoping for it to happen with everyone masking up, keeping a 6 foot distance, opening all the doors and maybe some timed entries. Sure, better to be safe then sorry. The number of vendors/attendees that would/should self select out might be financially devastating to ED without some concessions. I'd love to see some creative magic of doing an outdoor meet on the grounds. "Tailgate Meet" Too much work for too little return. Much like this post, I'll just continue to talk to myself about trains. haha. Be safe train peoples.
What if we call it the York protest? Then can we go?

That sounds like a York I'd probably consider skipping! Truthfully, that wouldn't be a York Meet at all, other than it's location.
And just think this will make MTH out completely where they would have been able to attend the last three shows of their advertised existence.
Although I certainly expected it nonetheless it still is a major league bummer. Of course, October's meet is still within the realm of possibility but to feel it's not in jeopardy would be shortsighted. Will this never end?
No shock or surprise about the announcement. I wasn't sure I was going to attend anyway.
Hope October is better
No surprise here and completely expected. But a total bummer nonetheless.

Unfortunately I see this as an excuse for people not to renew their TCA membership. I know personally one of the main benefits to joining the TCA was York but I do get some local shows and access to information. I hope to think that folks understand to have another York meet the TCA and EDTCA need to survive along with the rest of us. Please don't use this as an excuse to quit until York starts up again. I certainly understand the folks that are truly needing to cut back on their unnecessary expenses and spending due to the pandemic but those that are just quitting because there is no York I hope reconsider. We all talk about supporting the hobby, well now it's time.
Don't be a fair weather TCA fan.

Looks like a national plan has been developed and I hope it works because I really would like to attend an October 2021 York.
Not unexpected. I checked the Greenberg Train Show Inc. website and they are completely shut down. All staff has been furloughed. They say that they are reorganizing their finances.
Imagine that
I know of the outdoor show scheduled for May, July and September in Kutztown, Pa at Renninger's farmers market which has 2 outdoor pavilions that had around 400 tables plus folks setting up at their cars with tables at their last show in 2020.
I hope to attend these shows as I and the rest of you are on train show withdrawal pain!

I just switched my daughter's membership from child as she is now of age. I also just paid my dues.
Yes, the York meet is a big draw for those who belong in the TCA. I enjoyed trips to the museum and also the Quarterly and other mailings. Even with no York meet I would still belong.

It's Renninger's Farm Market for those who are interested. Some call it "Redneckers." As a local, I feel like I can say that.
Here's my 2 cents. We can have people in the stands for NFL games but we can't have a train show. No rhyme nor reason. Complete chaos.

without getting into the details, every group decides for themselves and according to local rules as well. They are letting people into NFL games but in very, very reduced numbers, and those are outdoor stadiums (it is like 6000 to 10000 or so I believe, of stadiums that hold 80,000). I don't know if the TCA cancelled this or if there were local rules in place. Logistically, think about it, York is an indoor venue that if they let in normal levels of attendees would be crowded. If they limit attendance, let's say only allowing 15% of capacity in at a time, would the vendors even bother going? The other thing is, it also could be given the demographics of York Attendees they felt that they likely wouldn't get many people going and it wasn't financially worthwhile holding it.
All we can do is hope and pray that things will be better by October, that the vaccines do what they say, and we can return to somewhat normal by late Summer or early fall at this point.
I received a notice from METCA a few days ago about new releases. It also gives info about show in April in NJ. I wonder if the State of NJ will permit it.
The good news about October 2021 events is that the winter coronavirus season seems to be peaking and perhaps beginning to decrease. At the same time as we are ramping up vaccinations. So it's altogether possible that there will be many fewer cases and, most importantly, fewer patients needing hospitalization by summer when the October 2021 decision needs making.
As far as people making their own decisions, I'm hoping you all will do what's right for public health and follow the guidance of the medical experts. No one's perfect, but we're the best you've got .
TCA is in a tough spot, but I think they're doing the right thing. IMO, trying to hold the meet and having greatly-reduced attendance and vendor participation could kill York forever. Better to wait until it can be held without any restrictions.
And I echo the sentiments of some posts above - please don't use this as an excuse to drop your TCA membership. Doing so will only hasten the demise of a great club. I'm guessing that ED will continue to honor the badges we bought for last April, but if not, I'll consider it a $20 donation.
Unfortunately, this thread will probably last about as long as last Saturday's big fight. It will be torched like a Packers defensive back. As the mods have said, there are plenty of other venues for discussing the politics of it.
Not a surprise......and, the correct thing to do.....see you all in October.....
Peter
I think you're over-thinking this.
"We all talk about supporting the hobby, well now it's time."
Hard to remember more poignant words on the OGR Forum in a long time.
I don't think there were many who felt that the April Meet would go forward so cancelling it just brought the EDTCA into conformance with reality.
October, in my mind, is a long, long, long shot. I travel to York from the West Coast and major changes will have to happen before I board a plane for 6 hours each way to spend 2.5 days with a bunch of old train guys in a crowded venue. No offense. I'm one.
In any case, as Marty said, it is time to step up and continue supporting our hobby.
I too am disappointed that the spring York show is cancelled. While we all chomping at the bit to get back to normal again, I certainly understand (and agree with) the decision to cancel. As bad as i'd like to go, I would not want to lose any more members to this horrible disease. For them, I can wait. I will re-new my TCA dues; hopeful of a fall York. I think I'll take some of the $ that I would have spent at York this April and go visit a couple of local hobby shops and spend it there. I'll bet they could use the support and the business.
Just moved my Hampton Inn, Shrewsbury reservation for the 3rd time.......it makes me sad to think about the evening and night staff who have worked there for years and treat all of us train nuts who regularly stay there as family.....I hope they are alright in these tough times.......
Peter
I believe October York will happen by the third quarter 60 to 70 percent will have access too the vaccine. We will never ever be 100 percent so life must go.on. Also right now politicans in the northeast region are loosing up the economies for a variety of reasons eg politics vaccine etc and many at that level are up for re election. So... We need a York for a variety of reasons and I believe manufacturers dealers will come back for at least the first one back to test the waters of a new old event. Covid has made the market for those who supply items for layout building some of the best years for them financially. For me covid hasn't made me hide its made new rules more work and more money. Think.positive think October York 2021!! Just blew a few thousand on the new NYC in 2021 Lionel catalog. let's keep the trains and party rolling!
