The innards of a Z4000 aren't really meant to be worked on by the end user. The only thing i'd do would be adjusting the handles if needed. If My Z ever fails, it will be going back to MTH for them to repair. I would do the same for any of the modern ZW's if i owned any.

You might take a peek inside and judge for yourself. A large part of how easy it is to work on any of this stuff is your experience level. One of the impediments to working on many of these products is the lack of any service information.
Thanks John,the old zw transformers were easy to fix.Hopefully someone down the line will come out with a repair guide for those of us wanting to repair these new technology items.
I've opened up lots of electronic equipment that I'd never seen before and repaired it. I will say that the manufacturers seem to be going out of their way to make stuff more difficult to repair, even to the point of the Lionel triangular screws in their new stuff.
