This topic is new to me, it may have been covered elsewhere..

My list in no special order:

Rich Melvin, Jim Barrett, Mike from Lionel, the 'brain child' of IC Controls (whose name alludes me at the moment), the current owner of Ross Custom Switches, on and on and on... On the old forum I was invited to spend the weekend with a Forum member, near Robertsville, NC.. His (whose name alludes me) part time home was a converted Railroad station, which my wife (ex) and I took advantage of!! Unique experience!! I am retired now and am able to travel about anywhere I choose..  What are your thoughts, comments, etc..

...I would like to see lee Willis come back...

Yes, so would I, especially because it is our fault that he left this forum.

Lee wanted to run an ad promoting his new book "Veranda Turbine." He had specific timing for the ad which he wanted us to meet, so it would coincide with the release of the book on Amazon. We blew it and ran the ad in the wrong issue, thus derailing his marketing campaign for the book! Lee got a bit upset with us (rightfully so) and stopped posting here because of our screw-up.

Is there a way through the Forum to connect with members living in your area, in my case Bristow, VA?

Good question!! I'd like to know that also.. I live outside of Aiken, SC.. What part of the state is Bristow? I still have some family members in VA.. I was born in Charlottesville, and have family in Waynesboro, and I visit Clintwood occasionally..

I would be happy to meet any and all Forum members!

Yes I know, I need to make a trip across the mountains to the Eastern part of my state to a place I think I recall reading about a time or two before; a place called York; Fairgrounds in April and October to be more specific.    I hope to do that next year.  By then I should have recovered from our last daughter's fall wedding.

Wow, I was surprised to see my name pop up a couple of times here. I didn't anticipate that. I hope it's not so they can try to sucker-punch me!  If not, then I'd like to meet anyone who mentioned me...

I've seen some good posts from several people since I've been here but I'm sad to say I can't think of the specific names off the top of my head right now. But for sure I'd like to meet Mike G, Mike W and Suzukovich. Lots of good folks here who I'd like to meet, though.

That said, I don't see myself going to any big 3-rail event, so I'm not sure if I'll ever get the chance to bump into a forum member anywhere.

You'll meet a bunch of them at York. Just make sure you have a good avatar and you look like it when you show up. Also helps if you post constructively regularly -- not with a bunch of useless information like I do.

Yeah, I'll never come to York. I'm not into 3-rail and I live over 3000 miles West of there.

As for posting constructively, I found for a while I wasn't doing that, so I quit beating my head against that wall about the stuff I couldn't change (though I can't stop my being fed up on the UP steam bandwagon negative posts) and decided to just focus on the positive stuff for the most part. Since then, I've found I'm enjoyed this forum a lot more now.

Larry,

I'm trying to find a reason to return to ET&WNC country (especially as my parents still own Dad's childhood home outside of Elizabethton and get up there every now and then) to spend time exploring the old railroad right of way and hitting Tweetsie in Blowing rock...

never say never!

Any and all forum members.

York usually yields about hundreds to meet.

I have met many forum members from several forums at York and  Allentown, and probably many that I wasn't aware of, either by not recognizing them in person compared to a forum photo, or by not knowing they are forum members.

For this reason, alone, we should have OGR Forum tee shirts.  If you see someone wearing one you will know they are a forum member.  I'm not very good at putting faces with names, especially the avatars.

I would like to meet Scott Smith of "Weekend Photo Fun" fame.  He shouldn't be too hard to identify at a train show or York if he is wearing his signature red and white top hat.  Weekend photo fun is one of my favorite forum posts.  I may be able to get to York for the first time this coming October.

I would also like to meet anyone who models the New Haven.

There are a lot of members I would like to meet. Hopefully my first quick York trip this year will not be my last.

Excellent remark Rich. Just my Opinion.

Where do you live?? My girlfriend lives in Johnson City.. She grew up in Elizabethton.. I'm up your way fairly often..

Many OGR members have pins or shirts, so that helps. I set up at a booth, so I do have more opportunities to meet forum members, and others who stop by.

Don't be so sure of that. I have driven down I-81 through Morristown to Cumberland Gap area twice in the last 30 days.

Any guy that wears a red and white striped hat must be a little crazy.  I hope to meet you in October.

You meet a lot of forum people at York, so many the faces and names tend to run together.

I can't believe I still haven't met Matt Jackson. I believe I saw him at a distance at the last two Yorks, but I never got to speak with him.

For the last several years I have added additional info to my York badge showing my club affiliations.  It also has I'm a OGR member with my forum handle (CAPPilot).  In the last three years, I've only had a couple of other forum members I didn't already know notice it.  Not even at the OGR booth.  Like Matt, I must be one of those who posts useless stuff so when others see me they run away

I would have a hard time recognizing someone from their avatar, even a good one, and I don't expect others to recognize me from mine.  This may be age related
