Now that we are (sort of) getting closer to Base3 being a reality, I made some more progress with my getting ready plans. I updated my Legacy controller (AKA Cab2) to Version 1.74 using the Legacy System Utility.

I've been waiting to do this for a few months because I had a (total) hip replacement 11/27/23 and was not allowed to do many things including going under my train table. I needed to do that to get to the wall transformer for my Legacy base. I had the wire from the transformer neatly connected with wire ties behind the spot where my Legacy Base is sitting. I was able to get my son to go under the train table and cut the wire ties to free the wire a few weeks ago with my guidance. I finally unplugged the base to bring it to my desk to connect to my PC to do the update. I had the good sense to include a serial port on the computer I bought in January (even though I know I could have used a USB adapter. Worked perfectly.

Now just "only" about 4 months to wait!

Several years ago, I asked about what rechargeable batteries to use in my Legacy controller, and I have bought and have been using these ever since:

While advice was also to not use the Legacy base for charging, I still do and now am planning for the eventual receipt of my Base 3.

I want to continue using my Legacy base as a cradle only and charge the batteries with an external charger.

The Legacy base will not be plugged in to avoid signal interference with the new Base 3.

I see several different “Tenergy” chargers on Amazon, I am wondering which to buy.

While I’m at it, are the batteries above still the recommended ones to use? Do they significantly degrade over time?

Thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions!

Stan

Hey Stan,

The Batteries you show above are TENERGY 2500 mah.  Did you know that TENERGY now makes a 2700mah Battery which I use. They are Black in color. They cal;l them their "Premium" AA   I think they keep a charge a little better than the 2500.

Just an FYI,...... FREDSTRAINS.
