Like a lot of people I have the Snoopy handcar.

S1

Cute piece but it doesn't do much.  What it needs is

         MORE   POWER !!!

So add this, ( Lionel power truck )

S2

Now for the Beta test.....

Not bad. 7 cars up a slight grade.

Now call in the rough carpenters

S3

Then the finished product.  I did not glue the doghouse to the frame. This
gives me the option of doing themes. Probably get a string of LED Christmas
lights and some artificial snow.

For now a trip to the pet shop gives me a dogbone car.
( this drove my dog nuts for 3 days until he gave up )

S4

Now run the finished product with  MORE POWER !!!!!  ( add grunt here )

How many miles per "DOG BONE" can Snoopy get?  Just wondering.  Really nice.  Thanks for sharing.  Killian

Wow

 thanks for all the comments.

I forgot to put this in the original post but another

formite gave me the original idea. christmasgarden  (Joe )

had mentioned doing this in an E-mail he sent. I just ran

with it... ( great idea Joe )

It was a fun project, I've run it at a couple shows so far and the

 reactions have been good.

 Bigdodgetrain:

Sorry I don't have the part number for you but it's a Lionel

power truck from an ALCO or switcher. I found it on E-bay.

Maybe take the picture to your local LHS and they can tell you.

It's a DC motor so there should be plenty of them around....

As far as sound, how about playing a recording of the barking

 dog's singing jingle bells ?  That's a stretch.

I like the Metlife idea. Get a flatcar with the Metlife flag on it

and pull it around. Then send them a bill for every lap Snoopy does.

 2 to 3 cents a lap sound ok ?

 Killian:

The dogbone almost did not survive. I went to the local pet supply

to buy it. It was just dumb luck it fit on a train car. My dog was

sniffing around the room for 3 days trying to figure out where the

     treat was.

Thanks again for all the comments.

  Shall I close by saying "It's a scale piece ? "

Naw, it would probably start a war on the forum....

As long as don't say what scale, you should be OK.

Just don't use the word "LASHUP" when running the handcar and the dog house together, otherwise you'll end up in Rich Melvin's "DOG HOUSE".    Killian

Noun1.

lash-up - any improvised arrangement for temporary use

 Great idea Killian....

Lets' go for broke and call it a scale lashup....

 Yes Bob...

The Snoopy car is still powered and the resistor used is 6.8 ohm @ 10 watt's

You may not be able to see it but the rectifier is on the truck and is 8 amp.

The resistor was hit and miss. I hooked it up, ran it to make sure that one was

not pulling to hard on the other... 6.8 ohms seemed to work well...

   Thanks Joe.

I can tell you this much. You don't see to many frowns when Snoopy goes by.

Everyone recognizes him, more so the adults than the kids.

I probably do 8 shows a year and 4 of them are non train crowd people.

( senior homes and museums ) He draws as much attention as most other trains.

except for the loud engines with a lot of smoke.

Another crowd pleaser  is the M&M hand car. Colors and the animation are nice.

I found a picture and a part number.

 goto Lionel's website. I searched for ALCO's and found  a 6-18936 engine.

The picture looks like what I have. Of course it's not in stock but maybe find the

engine on E-bay or at a show.

Looking at some of the other powered trucks, one of them might work.

 A Place to start....

I keep finding them under Lionel diesels?

I guess it depends on what you want to do. If you want just snoopy and the

dog house, that is fine. If you want to add cars to it you'll need a coupler on one side.

can't tell from the picture if you can add one or not.  can you ?

HI all
I was at the Lionel open house yesterday and brought the power
truck with me so that the guy's from Lionel could identify it.
They did, ( Thanks Scott )

Seems it's not from an Alco unit as thought. He said it was from a beep
or geep ? not sure it was really noisy. They look to be in stock,

anyway the part number is

620-8857-101 or a 620-8843-101 truck.
620-8857-071 is the side frame.

Or just try the link..

Now you guy's can get started. Don't forget to post pictures...
