Yes...

I have an Atlas ALP44 and an MTH ALP46. The '44 has a train of single-level Bombadier cars to pull, but the '46 does not. Awhile back Island Modelworks hinted that they could produce their HO models in 'O with about 25 cars worth of orders. I was prepared to order as many as eight. Maybe one or two other persons here indicated an interest, soooo, that might tell you what the chances of seeing these in 'O' are.

Atlas did some very nice Amtrak BW32-8 units in Amtrak, but never did a set of Amfleets for them. I'd really like to see some of those and maybe they could track down the tooling for the Amtrak Surfliners and Superliners that K-Line did.

Matt,

That would be awesome!    Sad that K-Line superliners are the most scale non-brass cars available in O scale.  While not 100% scale in every detail, or for that matter super detailed, they do serve as a good base for which to start. Certainly, if Atlas were to do these cars, or the Amfleet cars there would no doubt be a resurgence of more prototypical modern Amtrak passengers trains running on the rails in O Scale.

Never happen, I don't care. Heck,  still waiting for the 8-40CW now closing in on a decade. Now OK as lost interest in it.

Phill,

At this point it's difficult for me to say if I will even buy one now.  I've been very happy with the MTH releases, and although neither the MTH nor Atlas models are 100% correct for every -8 variation out there, the continued delays with the Atlas TM 8-40CW keeps my $$$ going elsewhere, still mostly with Atlas.

I remember when they were first announced the promise of a TM + category with sound for less than a Masterline offering.   What seems like a decade ago now, many of the details seem like they changed too from the original announcement, separately applied detail now vs molded on detail?  Not sure about the frame, diecast vs stamped?

I think the last time I saw the MSRP with Sound it was in the 429.95 range...  While the F7 Masterline locos with sound I think are in the 499.95 range.   My gut feeling now is that if/when these do finally come out you'll get them for about the same price as new MTH Premier versions with PS3

K-Line did the ONLY close-to-accurate California Surfliners. Not only were they the full 85-foot length, but they had the correct commuter-type doors and they did a great job on the cab car. A friend of mine has a set he 2-railed which he won't part with (something about prying them from his cold dead hands).

Here's a bit of irony for you. MTH's version of the Surfliners, basically repainted Superliners (don't get me started on those cars), actually "became canon" a while back as Amtrak finally painted the Superliner cars in a couple of the consists to match the rest of them.

Actually nothing has changed from the original announcement, the 4 rd name models Atlas has been displaying at their show booths for the last 5 years were built from the tooling created for them as test samples unless they were to rework or upgrade this tooling [highly unlikely at the current price point] what you have seen at the shows is what you will get [current electronics] if they actually go into production in the foreseeable future. I believe with their current commitment to the CZ set project including the matching diesels a number of listed models will get pushed back in the schedule. JMO

Matt,

In my opinion, the K-Line Amtrak Superliner was better than the Overland version as the K-Line car had interiors & passenger figures. I was unable to find Overland models with these details when I was shopping for Superliners a few years ago.

But I wasn’t too happy with the 21” K-Line Surfliner cars I had. The lower level had the 2 wide doors & some features unique to Surfliners but the upper level seemed to have the generic window arrangements of the Superliner, not the unique spacing of the Surfliner cars.

Maybe the customer expectations were lower when K-Line made these cars. K-Line went out of business before I got into O-Scale & I am used to the norm of Golden Gate Depot & Atlas-O capturing unique /road-specific details on their passenger cars.

These are just my opinion,

Thanks,

Naveen Rajan

Stephen,

I have a soft spot for double-decker cars & I would be interested in these Bombardier Multi-Level cars if Atlas or someone else were to offer them in O-Scale. I would also be interested in the ALP45DP as I work for Caterpillar & each locomotive has a pair of our engines.

But I also recognize that these may not be the most popular models outside the North-East corridor or Montreal as they were specifically made to fit the smaller loading gauges in those regions. Here in the Midwest, & on the West Coast, the commuter railroads could run taller passenger cars.

These are just my opinion,

Thanks,

Naveen Rajan

I don't think that is entirely true.   Perhaps Jerry or someone from Atlas can comment.  I recall from the Atlas O forum they mentioned several upgrades from the original announcement, not to mention they dropped the whole Trainmain Plus branding perhaps when they re-announced them?  Personally, at the price point for the straight DC versions I would prefer just to have those released and add Loksound myself.

Certainly wouldn't disagree with you though on competing priorities for production...

Certainly don't disagree with you when considering the price point.  I'm converting two I picked up on ebay awhile back, one already converted to 2R just need to add couplers and maybe some electrical connection cables, air lines, etc...   I will say I am not big fan of the trucks though, perhaps the weakest part of the car, IMO.    Like your cars, trying to find the later paint schemes is challenging.

I would certainly like to see some upgraded detail on this model but I believe any changes are their current electronic sound systems and DCC ready  2 rail models. Jerrys last comments on this model have already pushed "estimated" delivery into early 2017. just saying !

What I thought was great is that Atlas will be doing a series of small commuter trains. I suspect these would be popular for small layout for modelers who just to like to run trains. Though these do not fit my agenda, I like the idea of a small commuter train just to run something different once in a while.
