Mr. Erik, I've heard it said here and elsewhere that the shape of the dome is not correct? How so? This is of great interest to me as I've been building the budd domes for the Northcoast limited for about a year and scrounging parts for the domes themselves for about 3 years now really hard to find the dome assemblies at least Budd wrappers. Pick your Brain Please..
Austin Bill posted:The photo kicked me into memory lane and the E5 on the Texas Zephyr which ran from Denver to Ft Worth. We'd go down to the station in the small town of Vernon TX and watch her come through. People sitting on the fenders of their cars and pickups back when autos had fenders. Maybe a penny or two in the track. Which was a lot of money back then when a movie was nine cents and a box of popcorn was a buffalo nickel.
Brings to mind the words of the great singer/songwriter, Guy Clark. "Look out, here she comes, she's comin'. Look out, there she goes, she's gone. Screaming straight thru Texas like a mad dog cyclone."
Man, those were beautiful trains!! And the E5's. Wow!!
Amen to the above^^^
Those of us old enough to have seen the Texas Zephyr up close and personal are still chilled by that memory. I spent many days at my grandmother's house near the south end of Chillicothe CTC siding watching FW&D magnificence which included the TZ.
I will use this opportunity to vote once again for a CBQ, C&S, FW&D E5 in 3rail scale. I have my Atlas CZ, and I desparately want an E5 set to pilot it.

That's wonderful Santiago
watch out some members may be attacking us for posting material that may promote death. After all the CZ derailed once or twice of thrice and killed some passengers.
yeah sorry about that, hey can't wait for your article!

I think you're kidding...but for the record: Karl Zimmerman's book on the CZ said that no fatalities ever happened aboard the train, yet a child was born in transit putting the train in the Plus Column for lives aboard the train.
Looking at those photos - how can anyone who does plastic complain about availability in O Scale? That quality of models was unheard of a quarter century ago. Stunning!
You are so right Bob!
good stuff
If you don't hit the lottery or have political foundation raking in the bucks you will go broke trying to keep up with all the 2 rail stuff coming out. Atlas Zephyr cars are fantastic at a low price. I would have to sell a kidney if they came out with "SCALE" Amfleet and Viewliner cars!!!

If you went back to the old Atlas O web site you will see Erik's work with Atlas O on getting the dome right. As I remember Atlas O gave him a dome car as thanks for his work to get the dome right. Erik, if I am wrong, let me know.

Appropriate addition to this olde thread
This ad was shot roughly a mile from this location.
More fun CZ ads..
This ad looks suspiciously like Tolland along East Portal road a good mile or two from East Portal. The mountains appear doctored up a little; maybe emphasized upward..
This ad was shot past tunnel 4 looking south

Erik. Thanks for keeping the olde thread going. Good stuff!
Nice cars, they are just ever so too modern for me. My cutoff is 1955 a year before the first Slumbercoach cars were delivered. ;-)
