Atlas Locomotives

Locos whose tooling Atlas acquired from MTH use DCS.  Earlier Atlas locos use TMCC.  I have an FM Erie-Built that has the TAS TMCC cards in it.  The earliest Atlas-O products had DCRUs, IIRC.

Master, Premier and Trainman locomotives (2R/3R) will have ProtoSound 3 going forward.

I wonder if  duplicate locomotives from each manufacturer will end up with dcs,  I know mth has f3 and f7 locomotives and so does atlas. 

Honestly I wish Atlas AND the other manufacturers would sell a "bare bones" option so that we could add our electronics of choice.  Probably not gonna happen, but something to think about...

The recent announcements for both the Atlas Trainman gp15-1 and the Master c424/425 include analog DC versions along with the DCS equipped 2r and 3r models.  I can only presume that this is a concession to modelers that are accustomed to and prefer a traditional DCC option versus DCS or TMCC.

I appreciate that Atlas is offering the DC versions, as I'm not going to use DCS and I'm not going to pay for the electronics only to remove and replace them anyway.  Sure, I will have to supply and install my own DCC decoder, but I'm okay with that.  And the analog versions are priced accordingly at $200 less per each for the c424's and c425's, and $150 less per each for the gp15-1's.

I think it’s great that Atlas is offering a “Silver” version of their 2R Master and Trainman locomotives. It gives you the option to run conventionally or install the decoder of your choice.

I haven’t heard anything from Atlas regarding what type of motherboard will be inside a 2R analog model. Recently, they designed their board to accept a LokSound decoder as a drop in. Older dogbone motherboards in DC engines required the decoder to be hardwired to an adaptor board. I’m fine with either setup.

I have no interest in a Master or Trainman locomotive with ProtoSound 3. That’s best left for the Premier models.
