Atlas O did a whole series of different Chessie safety cabooses. A very colorful group.

Those large incandescent bulbs in the interior could be replaced with several small light emitting diodes to keep the heat to a minimum, so the plastic does not melt.

Nice caboose, I agree with Andrew, I'd definitely change out the lights to LED's.  I was just getting ready to ask if they were regular bulbs or if they were LED's.

I've owned a number of Atlas 3-rail and now 2-rail extended vision and standard cupola cabooses and they are without question the best examples by anybody in O scale for said cabooses. I've never experienced any issues with the incandescent bulbs generating too much heat or burning out.

Thanks guys. I never observed any lighted cabooses growing up as a kid, just red lanterns. Never understood why cabooses needed to be lighted in the first place. The rollers add drag to the car plus lights flicker on joints and dirty tracks. Not really necessary in my operation.

No lights, I agree with that in the cabooses, have gone dark with most of mine now except those with side lanterns.
