Atlas O, how about presenting the real BNSF Heritage Hoppers?

In late October, BNSF unveiled the first equipment in a line of heritage-painted rolling stock. For each predecessor road, three covered hoppers will be lettered and receive logos: Santa Fe; Frisco; Burlington Northern; Great Northern; Northern Pacific; Spokane, Portland & Seattle; Chicago, Burlington & Quincy; Fort Worth & Denver; and Colorado & Southern. Each of the cars is painted in a basic light gray scheme at the Havelock car shops in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Who will be the 1st to produce these BNSF Heritage Hoppers in O Scale? If you find these Heritage Hoppers on the rails, please take some pictures!

Regards,

Swafford

Not likely Atlas would do these paint schemes as they are not Trinity built hoppers, the KCS cars are also not Trinitys but were a special run for Bob at AM Hobbies. They could be done as a special run for any of the dealers who do these runs. Unless something changes the normal Atlas policy on Masterline products is specific prototype rd names only. These hoppers were built by more than 1 builder with noticeable variations in design.

Atlas has offered GN, CB&Q and SP&S 50 foot box cars on their PS-1 bodies when the prototypes were not built by Pullman so the models have the wrong style roof and ends and sometimes doors.

Why would Atlas take a different approach to hoppers than they have to box cars?

I'll certainly buy some incorrect Atlas Trinity hoppers in BNSF/GN to go with all my incorrect Atlas GN box cars.

Theres no question most buyers would buy rd names they like irregardless of how accurate the models are, in conversations over the years with Atlas reps this has been there policy in general, for obivious reasons it is not written in stone when you want to move product [it does take a number of runs for each model to amortize tooling costs] I would like to see the 60' Berwick done in the yellow TTX scheme but I have been told that is not a Berwick built car.

Has anyone seen these on the rails?

Haven't seen any of these cars make it out west yet. Just like the SD70Ace, they are kept in the Midwest for unit train service. Every once in a great while, I see an ACE sitting in Barstow Diesel Service....but it's very rare.

Good Day Pau,

Good question, I'll send a note to BNSF and make an inquiry. These are the hoppers that have been posted on the Internet, plus the recent CB&Q Heritage Hopper.

The cars have become known by the rail community as the BNSF Heritage Fleet. These are not fantasy cars or paint schemes but actual prototypes that are currently in service earning their keep. Don’t delay . . .order yours today.
