Looks great and nice job.

One little, teensy tiny thing... When doing the conversion to a fixed pilot, you don't have to trim the tabs off the trucks.

What I did was actually swap the trucks and turn them around. Put the front one on the back and the back one on the front, which then faces the coupler tabs on towards the fuel tank.

This way, this is not a permanent swap.

Of course, it was very labor intensive and taking a brand new A unit apart completely and reassembling it was quite daunting. If I did it again, I would just cut them off.

Thanks,
Mario

If anyone would like more information on F3 "phases," referred to in Eric's excellent video, as well as more information on F units in toto, p/u Jeff Wilson's book, F UNITS:  The Diesels That Did It, available new and used on Amazon--terrific book w/ clear and brief explanations, line drawings, and lots of period photos.

I'm not a 2R guy, but Santiago's thread is an excellent read with many photos.

Your review is indeed nicely done.  I have all of the necessary Atlas CZ cars (produced thus for) for the train.  It would sure be nice to have the Observation and Baggage (Hint to Atlas).

I am still debating what I want to pull the train with.  All the options (Atlas, Lionel, 3rd Rail, etc.) have their pros and cons.  I think I have pondered the decision so long that the available inventory of Lionel and Atlas are disappearing and the prices are reflecting that.  Hmmm?

I have the ABA set of the D&RGW PAs that MTH produced for Lionel.  Obviously using existing equipment fits my budget the best!  Or maybe I'll tote my cars over to Eric's next Piedmont Pilgrimage and let him pull them with those awesome Atlas engines.  :-)
