Hi all,

I'm in the beginning stages of designing my new layout. It will be a 12X40 layout with a 3' gap down the middle about 36' deep. I want a double mainline loop and so will need a 3 foot bridge across the gap. I am considering using the Altas double line truss bridge. The bridge will be a "swing-up" instead of a "pull-out". The Atlas bridge is 40'' long.

My questions are: Is this the bridge to use or do others have better suggestions? Is the bridge sturdy enough to handle being lifted up hundreds if not thousands of times? I am thinking of placing a 1/2'' plywood sub road under the bridge. Any special suggestions on mounting the bridge? (I do know that the hinges need to be above the bridge platform.)

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you for your time.

Best to all. Be well!

Hey John. Here are some suggestions from me. I glued everything together firmly. Plus.....instead of using the plastic pins that Atlas provides to hold the trusses to the girder sections, I used 3mm nylon bolts, washers and screws to "bolt" everything together. My bridge is certainly bullet proof.

My opinion....I built my bridge to be strong but stationary. Mine is only single track. I do not think the Atlas bridge will be able to withstand 100's of moves / lifts / etc. I would maybe try to connect it to a solid base. This is just my opinion.

Please review the pictures.
