I have been attacked by the On3 "Trainbug !"
I was cornered and forced to purchase three locomotives and a dozen cars.
I had no choice.
Uh oh . . . . . . What am I gonna do?
Two rail?

I love narrow gauge! I do On30.
Please post some of your excellent photos of that other green K36 (No 481) when it arrives - what a beauty!
Just remember before you call Mike Reagan telling him your challenger isn't running, make sure you tell him you put it on 2 rail track.
OMG.....How dare whoever forced you into this!! I am sure you put up a brave fight Eliot and resisted this evil attack....! The next thing you know, you will be coerced into having to provide the attackers track to run these On3 trains on...oh...the humanity of it all...

Most virulent cars ofRailpoxis Narrowsis I've ever seen. No cure. Your wallet has my condolences.
Eliot... just be careful the rails don't spread on you. Have fun with them. I love Colorado narrow gauge.
Eliot, you can run 2 on one piece of track. Just make sure they are going in the same direction though, as passing may be problematic!
Eliot,
Where are you going to be able to lay track for these narrow gauge critters? You existing layout is practically to the limits of space and room for anymore track, even narrow gauge.
There are several O Scalers who have combined standard and narrow gauge track like the real Rio Grande Railroad did. The track then has 3 RAILS! Although they are not equally spaced. They even built switches having 3 rails. Look in some Rio Grande Railroad books and you'll see what I mean.

Who says 3-rail isn't prototypical? Here's the proof!
Get some East Broad Top stuff. Then put narrow gauge trucks under standard gauge freight cars like the EBT did and you'll have the best of both worlds. As you sharpen your tracklaying and electrical skills your trains could be grounded now and then. Har Har!
Eliot, one of the best rail trips we ever took. Nothing like narrow gauge. If you haven't done it, do. Don
I don't believe it is possible to run without the third rail.
Marty I scanned your code and had a great time reading about your passion. I love your dog! Haha
Elliott!! NO!! Your wallet and layout can't handle the strain!!
Say 3 Hail Marys, 3 Acts of Contrition, and 3 Our Fathers, and you will be cleansed of your 2-rail indulgence. Otherwise, you'd better get a pair of spiking pliers for stuff like this...!
Have fun!
Dave,
The Rabbi never taught me Hail Mary or Our Father.
I'll have to consult my Mexican wife.
To me, an Indulgence is an articulated locomotive.
Can I say Oy Vay ?
Ay, Ah Chalootchkie?
Vayismere?
PS: Is your O/On3 track all handlaid?
Vayismere

I've tossed around the idea of getting an On3 (On30? I don't know the difference?) porter tank engine and setting up a little mine-run feeder line. Such things were quite common in the PA coal region. I need to figure out where I'm building a layout first. :/
" On3 (On30? I don't know the difference?)"
On3 means modeling in O scale with track based on a 3 foot wide prototype.
On 30 means modeling in O scale with track based on a 30 inch wide prototype.
On30 is more of an accommodation so that HO sized track can be used.
Nice engine Elliot!
Dave Hikel, I really like that dual gauge track. Because of the switch, I assume it's 3 rail O and narrow gauge.
Any pickup roller problems?
Can you tell us a little about it. I've always wanted to do something like that.

That's great. I love narrow gauge too, if you pray to the Hindu God of narrow gauge, Narrakrishna, he will will show you the way.

Hi all
I've tossed around the idea of getting an On3 (On30? I don't know the difference?)
Wowak, marker has it right.
On3 = 36in. narrow gauge
On30 (occasionally still called On2 1/2) =30in. narrow gauge
However, to those on the enlightened path, On3 is the yin and On30 is the yang.

Oy vay Elliott! I hope your wife's parish has padded kneelers. If an articulated is an indulgence your collection is going to need a LOT of prayers. I'll have to check with my priest, but I think Vision engines count as two indulgences since they cost twice as much. They also seem to require the laying of hands to run reliably.

Marker, yes that is On30/3-rail O dual gauge. We have not had any pickup roller problems thanks to some careful measuring before any rail was spiked. What you see above isn't actually a switch. It's just a crossing. There are no moving parts. You can see more about the making of the dual gauge track in this thread: NorthWest Trunk Lines - The Voyage Continues. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you'll see my most recent project update that includes the Owenyo dual gauge.
Can I say Oy Vay ?
Ay, Ah Chalootchkie?
Vayismere?
Oy vey (Yiddish: אױ װײ), meaning Oh pain.......
Very appropriate! But where are your yarmulke, tzitzis, and pais?
Thanks Dave extremely interesting.
Elliot, as an ex Colorado resident, I came to love Narrow Gauge. Some day I would hope to go outside with the G scale Narrow Gauge equipment I have. I hope to see you work that into your layout somehow.
Here's a narrow gauge engine you don't see too much.
I like the theological humor in this thread
Here are some East Broad Top photos to whet your appetite, Eliot.
No. 15 is being fired up inside.
Eliot,
You deserve to be "attacked" not only by On30, but by other members of this forum.
I hope you will have better luck running these 2 rail trains than the last 2 rail train you attempted to run. Yes, by that I mean the infamous derailing of the Nickel Plate 765 with you in the cab attempting to play a real engineer.
I hope Rich Melvin is still posting security around the NKP 765 whenever it leaves its stall which is on the lookout for you.
Your friend
Erol
I visited Andrew Dodge's representation of the narrow gauge Denver, South Park, & Pacific yesterday. He is getting ready to tear our this nice layout and start anew with the standard gauge Colorado Midland.
The narrow gauge bug bites hard. There are a lot of great On30 and On3 layouts to draw inspiration from, but I highly recommend you check out Paul Scoles Sn3 Pelican Bay Railway & Navigation Co. to get an idea of what can be done in narrow gauge modeling.
Paul has released three Dvd disks of the layout--two on building scenery, and one on operation. The operation Dvd shows most of his layout--one of the best I've ever seen.
