No, Lee, it’s an Atlantis model kit, originally from 1956. I think the original molds were from Revelle. The cab that comes with it, I’m making an REA CAB. HERE’s an earlier version that I made into a Sunoco tanker.
Lee, further on the tanker model. They’re now made in the USA by Atlantis Toy and Hobby in Deer Park, NY. HERE’s the tractor painted for REA. If you look back through these posts, you will see a couple built by Lee Drennen. As built out of the box, they can be either Sinclair, or Army Air Force gas tankers

Finished! I finally got the tractor/trailer from Atlantis finished. The Fruehauf trailer is finished as an Army Air Force tanker, and the White cab is finished for REA. Here’s the tanker at Area 51, and the cab is on it’s way to an REA facility to pick up a trailer.

Artie, that looks just Outstanding!
Thanks, Mike! I’m going to have to expand my layout, soon. I owe both of these to Lee Drennen’s inspiration. For a reasonable price, they build into nice models.

Beautiful Artie! Glad you got them done the look excellent on the layout. These are one of my favorites to build.
Thanks for the compliments, Lee, and the paint and decal recommendations.

I'm not trying to pick a fight and I'm most certainly not demeaning this fine workmanship, but if this trailer is being shipped to its new home why is there a fire extinguisher in the space on the trailer? I would think that it would be empty and that an exringuisher would be added at the destination.
Forty Rod, I can tell you when I was in the Marines that when we shipped equipment everything that was to be with it went along. Except Ammo.
Forty Rod, I just posted the finished model on a flatcar on my Area 51 layout to show it’s best side. Most likely it will stay next to my Hanger 18 at Area 51, as below.

Artie, great job! I have an Area 51 on my layout as well. Very clean, very sharp modeling.

Thanks, Joel. Your modeling is an inspiration to me as well. Truth be told, I gain some great info from everyone on this forum.

Comes Standard with every trailer
Huh. I have two of those kits and haven't even looked in the box yet. Guess I'll learn to live with fire protection.
Hey, where do I get the glass for the cabs?
Tom, the newer kits come with the glass, but you can order just the glass set from Atlantis Toy and Hobby, who are manufacturing the kits. They’re in Deer Park, NY. They have a web site you can order from online. The kits mostly fit together well, but some trimming of flash, and light sanding, and trial fitting before glueing can lead to a nice model.
Take care, Artie
People like Forty Rod are never invited to see my layout. It’s not perfect. JohnA
But it is awesome!

Who wants a perfect layout anyway too much stress and no fun. Never understood Rivet counters.
Artie no matter what the critics say you did a Fabulous job on both models Please don’t be discouraged I would like to see more like these. Glad i was a inspiration for you.
Artie that is a beautiful job, I really like the way you finished the tank and the cab and the innovative idea that they did not have to support the same truck but could be two separate models. Now you have done it...I have had that model kit in the box under my table for at least a year, you have me thinking about finally starting it this summer when I am on vacation.

Guilty as charged ........ nice job, Artie.
Oh, don’t worry, Lee, my skin has gotten thick over the years. I enjoy my model work, and it’s totally relaxing.

Paul, I noticed your last couple post have been night scenes! Very cool, they all look outstanding! It's a shame the chill is coming, that means all those hot gals will have to cover up for the winter! I guess it will give me something to look forward to in the spring! LOL
Mike, in that case, I guess we'll have to switch over to indoor events...

Good to see, Paul! I’ve got a new one coming!
Paul, your night scenes are just amazing! and It's also nice to see the weather really hasn't changed there yet!
I have a question...I bought several vehicles specifically advertised for O (some are even Railking) but they are 1/43 scale. Does anyone else find them to large for their layout? Or, is that just a me thing. I also bought some 1/50 tractor trailers and other diecast related items. I find the size to be less jarring...more suited to the layout.

Anthony, it’s a personal choice. Most cars and trucks are 1/43, because it was long established. Some 1/48 is out there (some of Menards), and some kits, but if a large truck in 1/50 looks good with other models, it doesn’t make that much out of place. Look back through this topic, and you’ll see a mix. Placement in a scene has a lot to do with it.

Anthony, If you are looking for 1/48, 1/50 is only four percent too small while 1/43 is ten percent too large. John
Anthony, Artie is right, 1:48 is not abundant so to make do ith everything from 1:43 through 1:55 placement and perception are what make different models work.
Ninety-nine percent of cars on my layout are 1/43...just because the vast amount of choices are 1/43 . I've tried to position the cars in ways that create the illusion that cars, buildings and people are all in the same scale even though they are not.
Most of the uptown rally buffs below have put these cars away for the season...in Dad's garage with the "trickle charger" on for the winter. Most will be out on the road again next spring, hopefully..

Artie, nice looking panel truck...great name from the early days and you can't miss with blue and yellow! The Blue Angels would agree...

Nice looking "Stang!" He was trying to out do the "Vette" in the quarter mile between North and South Main...then the law stepped in...
