Thanks, Lee, will do!
A straight load of 6 x 8 Creosote ties arrives at the "Charles Street Yard to begin the tie replacement project...the "Pete" driver points to the traffic jam on Charles Street and explains why he's late with the delivery, or was there another reason...???
And is that a “helper” sitting on the back of the Peterbilt?
Artie, great looking job on the decals!
Paul, wonderful photo of the guys at work trying to get things ready for the Tie replacement job at hand! Artie, that's not a helper sitting there, thats the motivation to hurry up and get the job done so they can go have a drink and meet some of her other girlfriends!
I know its not an Auto or Truck, but I finished building my Piper Cherokee plane and didn't like the white so I painted it red!
I wish I would have known that CA Accelerator would cause the plastic glass to fog things would have turned out better! I got a little ahead of myself in a hurry to get it mounted I forgot to put the decals on. Just another to do project! LOL As you can see I had the same problem with the glass on the helicopter!
Thanks, Mike. The piper and helicopter look good! By the way, you can glue those clear window parts with canopy glue, made just for that purpose.
Mike- it looks like (to me) your airplane may move along that groove. If so, please post a video! JohnA
That is awesome!! Great modeling! Thank you

Sometimes it fogs, other times it doesn't - no way to tell for sure that I know of.
In the future, you can try coating the windows with a clear acrylic like Future Floor polish before applying the accelerator.
At this point you can try rubbing the window with some gritty toothpaste or plastic cleaner/polish (like Meguiar's) and apply with a cotton swab to the windows; let dry and rub off with another swab. Might take a few applications. When you've got it as good as you're going to get it, apply a thin coat of vegetable oil on the window and leave.

Hi Richie, thanks for all the information, the problem is I would have to cut it open to get to the inside. That being said they will stay as is, but will do better on the next one! LOL

For those breathlessly waiting- here’s the finished AAF tanker being delivered to Area 51! Soon to follow will be an REA tractor to be delivered to Lionelville.
@Artie-DL&W posted:
Tamayia, 1/48 scale, I assume?
No, Lee, it’s an Atlantis model kit, originally from 1956. I think the original molds were from Revelle. The cab that comes with it, I’m making an REA CAB. HERE’s an earlier version that I made into a Sunoco tanker.
Lee, further on the tanker model. They’re now made in the USA by Atlantis Toy and Hobby in Deer Park, NY. HERE’s the tractor painted for REA. If you look back through these posts, you will see a couple built by Lee Drennen. As built out of the box, they can be either Sinclair, or Army Air Force gas tankers
Finished! I finally got the tractor/trailer from Atlantis finished. The Fruehauf trailer is finished as an Army Air Force tanker, and the White cab is finished for REA. Here’s the tanker at Area 51, and the cab is on it’s way to an REA facility to pick up a trailer.
Artie, that looks just Outstanding!
Thanks, Mike! I’m going to have to expand my layout, soon. I owe both of these to Lee Drennen’s inspiration. For a reasonable price, they build into nice models.

Forty Rod, I can tell you when I was in the Marines that when we shipped equipment everything that was to be with it went along. Except Ammo.
Forty Rod, I just posted the finished model on a flatcar on my Area 51 layout to show it’s best side. Most likely it will stay next to my Hanger 18 at Area 51, as below.
Artie, great job! I have an Area 51 on my layout as well. Very clean, very sharp modeling.

Thanks, Joel. Your modeling is an inspiration to me as well. Truth be told, I gain some great info from everyone on this forum.

Comes Standard with every trailer
Huh. I have two of those kits and haven't even looked in the box yet. Guess I'll learn to live with fire protection.
Hey, where do I get the glass for the cabs?
Tom, the newer kits come with the glass, but you can order just the glass set from Atlantis Toy and Hobby, who are manufacturing the kits. They’re in Deer Park, NY. They have a web site you can order from online. The kits mostly fit together well, but some trimming of flash, and light sanding, and trial fitting before glueing can lead to a nice model.
Take care, Artie

Artie no matter what the critics say you did a Fabulous job on both models Please don’t be discouraged I would like to see more like these. Glad i was a inspiration for you.
Artie that is a beautiful job, I really like the way you finished the tank and the cab and the innovative idea that they did not have to support the same truck but could be two separate models. Now you have done it...I have had that model kit in the box under my table for at least a year, you have me thinking about finally starting it this summer when I am on vacation.

I have a question...I bought several vehicles specifically advertised for O (some are even Railking) but they are 1/43 scale. Does anyone else find them to large for their layout? Or, is that just a me thing. I also bought some 1/50 tractor trailers and other diecast related items. I find the size to be less jarring...more suited to the layout.
Comments?
Anthony
Anthony, it’s a personal choice. Most cars and trucks are 1/43, because it was long established. Some 1/48 is out there (some of Menards), and some kits, but if a large truck in 1/50 looks good with other models, it doesn’t make that much out of place. Look back through this topic, and you’ll see a mix. Placement in a scene has a lot to do with it.

Anthony, If you are looking for 1/48, 1/50 is only four percent too small while 1/43 is ten percent too large. John
Anthony, Artie is right, 1:48 is not abundant so to make do ith everything from 1:43 through 1:55 placement and perception are what make different models work.
Ninety-nine percent of cars on my layout are 1/43...just because the vast amount of choices are 1/43 . I've tried to position the cars in ways that create the illusion that cars, buildings and people are all in the same scale even though they are not.
Most of the uptown rally buffs below have put these cars away for the season...in Dad's garage with the "trickle charger" on for the winter. Most will be out on the road again next spring, hopefully..
Artie, nice looking panel truck...great name from the early days and you can't miss with blue and yellow! The Blue Angels would agree...
Nice looking "Stang!" He was trying to out do the "Vette" in the quarter mile between North and South Main...then the law stepped in...
Can't miss with that combo, Artie...tanker and a panel for the short runs...
Mrs. 'Ski had $20 in Kohl's cash and a 30% coupon and dragged me there today.
I'm glad that she did - she could not find anything that she wanted so she gave them to me.
I picked up this Hallmark Keepsake 1966 Dodge A-100 truck (looks to be 1:50). The price was $19.95, so I got it for free.
I gotta get me one of these!
From a rally on North Main in early fall...the attendance this season was a record...the "Dodge" guys and gals showed up for this one..

I had a 1971 custom ordered GTO, except it was Gold in color, and loved that car! (GTO = Gas, Tires, and Oil by the way). I'm going to have to do something about that hook in the roof of the Goat! Same price at Hallmark store as Kohls.

I saw the Goat and the fire truck. I thought they were all a little small but thought I could make the A-100 work because it's a quirky vehicle but passed on the GTO.
When I first saw this Airstream at Kohl’s, I knew it would work at my little park/campground. It’s small, but fits in well. The awning retracts into the side. I snipped the hanger ring off flush with wire cutters.
The A-100 ornament may look small, but I'm not too sure about that.
If I remember correctly, this was a small vehicle with only 13 inch wheels

western...realistic scene! Can't go wrong with the '50s, '60s, and early '70s GM cars! The Vette and GTO remain on my list of favorites Seeing your welder reminds me that I need to install my blue-flame guy. Great addition to any layout. It's just that I have such a disdain for wiring these days that I put as much off it off as possible, just as long as the trains are able to run on schedule...
I have a couple of vintage Corgis that some kid enthusiastically repainted with what looks to be a silver enamel paint. Is there a method for removing the topcoat while leaving the original paint intact?

Try finger nail polish remover. It has worked pretty well for me on a lot of projects. You might also find old fashioned brake fluid. It usually works.
Hi...know everyone is gearing up for their Christmas layout or scenes under the tree. Found this today at "Michaels" @ 40% off its regular price which amounted to $20. Its a "LEMAX" product and I really think it will dress up my Christmas scene.
Happy Holiday Season
Don
Paul, that’s a classic shot with the ‘58 Olds wagon.
Great find, Don. It looks to be close to scale.
I’ve been trying some shots with my phone on the layout itself to get a “ground” level view. Here’s a couple of Sunoco trucks down at the derrick, and a Peterbilt next to my gantry crane. The Peterbilt is a pretty good model, seeing as I’ve had it from when my daughter was small in the 80’s. It came in a Lionel Trains and Trucking starter outfit. I’ve repainted it.
Artie...enjoy seeing your industrial scenery, and there's nothing that beats Sunoco blue and yellow...nice work!
Between the Friday Xmas shoppers and the tree buyers, things are active by the N. Main Street station as the "Chief" pulls in...

Latest acquisitions. The Chevy flatbed and The Mystery Machine are JADA Toys from Walmart and then Dodge is Hallmark. The Chevy is listed as 1:35 but I thought it looked good for a large truck. The bed is a little short so I may look into converting it a rack body or a box truck. If I go that route I'll try to de-hot rod it some. I'll compare it to the ERTL versions I have to see if it fits. The Mystery Machine is way big but the plan is to try and fitit on a SuperStreets chassis. We'll see if hat ever comes to fruition. The Dodge is a little small but when I saw posted I just had to have one.
