I have a 2007 MTH Imperial ps2 0-6-0 switcher. It isn't used a lot but recently it came to a stop, lights flickering and a loud buzz. Defunct battery? If so what would be the replacement?

Those are not symptoms of a bad battery- likely you have a different problem.
" it came to a stop, lights flickering and a loud buzz." Signs of a short or failing component. Example could be a speaker shorted to frame ground, could be a wire pinched, or could be a another electronics failure.
I would properly sort that problem before worrying about the battery.
What engine EXACTLY is this- product number example 30-XXXXX-1 edit- you said Imperial implies Railking or 20-XXXXX-1?
Also do NOT power it up again until you find out what the problem is!
It's 20-3282-1. Hope I haven't made it worse. I applied power to the tender alone and it sounded fine. Opened up the boiler didn't see anything wrong (limited knowledge, moved wires around a little) so hooked it back with the tender, powered up and for a few seconds it was okay then started buzzing again so immediately shut down.
I think I've had this for about 10 years. I got it used on eBay and noticed several wires with heat shrink so it may have been serviced before. First time I've ever had an issue with it but it is 17 years old.
Do your other locos work fine on the same transformer you are using to power the 0-6-0?
Everything else works fine. DCS is powered by a brick.
