Godspeed and Good travels
A shocking loss to family, friends, and railfans. Good gosh, this has been an awful 5 years, or so.
Jim addressed the Burlington Route Historical Association some 6 or 7 years ago - good presenter and a most warm personality. He will be missed.
😢
Condolences to his family and all his co-workers at Trains.
An excellent re-cap of his life and career at the link above. There's someone who truly lived out his passion every day.

God bless and God speed to his soul. May he have the high ball all the way and the wind behind his back. My condolences to his family and coworkers at Trains.
Jim was not yet with Kalmbach when I worked there years ago, so I did not have a chance to meet and know him personally. However, I am a regular reader of Trains magazine and he certainly did a fine job of maintaining the high standards set for that publication. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues at Kalmbach.
This is so sad. Jim was a wonderful supporter of the preservation movement and instrumental in getting Trains magazine to support so many preservation projects. Hope Jim and David Morgan are up there sharing stories and a drink. He will be sorely missed.
Very sad to read. Condolences, and warm wishes.
Only 61 ... "cancer sucks."
I’ll take “people who will be impossible to replace” for $1000, Alex...unlike a lot of you, we didn’t get to know him well, but it was always good to run into him at events. He had that Jim Comstock skill of being a good editor, a good reporter and a good storyteller, or all three at once. He was on some of the more...interesting...railman trips. I hope this one was a lot smoother and he was riding the varnish all the way.
I didn't know Jim personally, but from everything I have ever heard about him over the years, he was a first class guy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim's wife and family.
Pat

So sorry to hear this news. Had a wonderful time getting to know Jim while riding trains in Peru a few years ago. My condolance to his wife and family. Phil
May he rest in peace. Lost my mother and aunt to this terrible disease.
