I wasn't sure where this should be posted as it is not 'train' related, but as it is "bakelite' related I thought I'd just drop it here. Flying home from vacation last week I had a copy of the New York Daily News in hand and came upon this story of the family of the scienties who developed bakelite, the product that was so instrumental in the early growth of the toy train hobby. I had no idea that the product was developed in Yonkers, NY, just miles from the old Bronx homestead....ok, apartment. Perhaps you'll find it interesting summer reading.
