Hey guys -
I've been away from the forum (and trains in general) for a long time so I hope this post isn't a repeat.
I received the flyer below from Barry's Train Shop in Elizabethtown, PA yesterday and just wanted to pass it on.

Do they have a web page?
Nope.

Bob,
Thanks for passing along the flyer. Hope you get back to your trains and your videos. I have enjoyed being a subscriber of your Youtube Channel.
What an unfortunate thing to happen any time to a LHS and its customers, let alone during the peak season of trains - the holidays.
Interesting development. If I recall correctly, isn't this the establishment that announced a closing of its retail "brick-and-mortar" operation late last year / early this year, with the intent to focus on the shop's Internet (eBay) business? So is Barry's Train Shop completely closing all operations now?
Barry is closing shop not because of competion but his HEALTH problems.
Ron M
No web page and won't take credit cards, so this sale seems fairly useless unless you live there. There's a street address, so there must be a bricks and mortar store. The address says E Town, which wouldn't be understood except by locals, I suppose.
It doesn't seem like there could be that much in stock given it's only 10% off and the place is being shuttered in just 3 weeks.
Barry,
Always treated me very nice. I met him at York many years ago. I wish him the best.
Rocky Mountain's recollection is spot on.

Don't think Barry's ever had a website, relying on eBay for an online presence. Sold me a NIB 1992 Lionel 11724 Great Northern set with all the cars at a great price (for the times) ten years ago. Flyer says at least 10% off. Could be worth swinging by to see if he has something old that's still new for anyone in the vicinity.
E-Town — What is the title of this discussion?
Doesn't that answer your query?

Gentlemen,
Barry had a real nice on line business as part of his train shop, I purchased several Legacy engines from his on line store this past year, including my new Legacy Northern Pacific GP9, his on line business is no longer available as of yesterday morning. I was told his health has further declined.

As stated, Barry is closing for health reasons only. He did close the shop earlier this year and has been selling on eBay.
If you are out of the area and looking for something special I suggest you give them a call and ask if they have it. You can always ask if they would hold it until you send a check or money order.
Sad news indeed. Barry and gang were a fixture at many Hamburg, Allentown and York meets. I purchased several items from them over the years. They offered good prices and very courteous service.
IIRC, Barry first fell ill about 2 years ago just before either an Allentown or York meet. Best wishes to Barry, his family and co-workers.
Remember to continue to shop local and extend support to Small Business Saturday(s).
It's always hard to see a train shop close due to the owner's health problems. Given the short time frame for the closing, it must be a significant issue. All the best to Barry and his family. If not half the country away, it would be nice to stop by the shop.
All of these sales and blow outs I am going to have to knock off some banks, OY vah!
I live 15m from Barry's shop. He was always great to deal with. It seems like most every LHS is going under or severely cut back. Now it seems I have to trek to Nicholas Smith to see anything in person without buying right away.
That said, I will partake in Barry's sale if given half a chance.
Ok,
I will ask one more time - are there any of those Atlas special run "Welsville Adison and Galliton" single sheathed box cars left somewhere in the shop? I would like to get my hands on one!!
Richard
I do believe all Barry's Atlas Primer O Gauge, Wellsville, Addison & Galeton (WAG) Box Cars are gone now, however Barry had some stuff stored away that did not appear in his on line store. I can't seem to get an answer at the store and the on line e-bay store is down now also. I just picked up the older Weaver O Gauge WAG Box Cars pictured above, this last month, very tough to find now. Both the Atlas & Weaver WAG box cars are now going for over $64.95. Richard the Public Delivery Web sight has one Atlas Premier Steam Era WAG Box Car left, at a cost of $64.95, if you want to purchase it.
Merry Christmas

Sounds like he primarily dealt with newer stuff, but would he have any Lionel postwar at the shop? I'll be passing near there on the way home from school in a couple weeks, could stop in
He used to do many shows. I did see him and his sons at the July Hamburg, PA show. He looked tired then. His sons didn't appear too interested in the business.
As I recall whence I last entered his shop, he had a copious supply of Atlas O 3-rail, which I would be quite interested in if discounted sufficiently. The cash-only requirement, while not surprising, is nonetheless bothersome.

Barry always had some postwar in the shop. A good many people brought him trains they wanted to sell.
I talked with Barry last Saturday. Unfortunately his son has no interest in the business.
As stated, the store will be open from December 5 - 24th, then close permanently. After that, plans are to continue selling the balance of the inventory on eBay. I did not ask Barry if he will be doing any more shows.
Lionel Grandpa,
Good to hear you were in contact with Barry, hope to visit his on line store again when he gets it back up. Some real nice stuff in his on line store.

Thanks Dave,
I had the Crown / Weaver version of the WAG single sheathed box car, and sold it off a while back. I was hoping Atlas would release one. The Atlas single sheathed box cars really detailed, and one of my favorite freight cars. I did not notice Barry's version of this car until it was too late.
I will look at the PDT site and see what they have, but I suspect it will be the Atlas Steam Era Classic steel rebuilt version. I have one of those.
I have posted "wanted to buy" posts on the forum with no luck. If I can get my hands on an undecorated Atlas single sheathed box car (I did find two of them in Nashville last December, but they turned into an IC and a Tennessee Central single sheathed box car), I have a friend who can paint and letter me a WAG box car.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you also.
Richard
I'm going to miss Barry's Train Shop. I spent many Saturday's when on business in the Harrisburg area buying trains from him. I bought dozen's of Legacy and Premier locomotives out of his big showcase,he always offered me some amazing deals on used scale engines. What a fun place to shop! Best wishes to Barry and the Keener family.
Sorry to hear this bought from him a few times always satisfied
I was over this afternoon. There was a nice selection of stuff; more Lionel then anything else. There were hints that there was more selection in the back area, but I'll go back during the week to ask about it. The place was a madhouse and I don't like to be a disruption when the place is busy. There also were hints of a lingering online presence, but I don't have any further details.
Barry was there, and as mentioned, looked tired. However, he hobbled around and asked just about everyone in the place if they needed anything or if he could help, and was chatting up everyone else between. To the point that his brother and other colleague had to get him to sit! Few like him any more; he and his business will be missed.

Pantenary,
You are correct sir, not many like him left, liked his business a lot, including his on line store, end of another era, no doubt about it.

There are 2 back rooms. One that is organized where you can see the product and another where there are just boxes and boxes of stuff that you would have to sift through. There are treasures in there for sure. This will be one of those closing sales where you will have to go several times because the inventory will change as they can get those products out.
The staff helping Barry (and Barry himself) seem to know where everything is, so if you don't see something you want, ask and they can probably find it.
It's a double edge sword on pricing. All the markings appear to be regular prices. You don't know what the discount is until you ask someone, or bring it to the register and Barry will quote you a price right there. The discounts are VERY good. But I would rather know the pricing before I get on line to pay. Especially since you have to pay cash and you are trying to manage your cash.
Have Fun. Ron
Hi Ron:
I am not so interested in most of the trains themselves, but the parts and miscellaneous goodies lurking around in those boxes. I'd like to get back this week and see if one of them will allow some rummaging or nay.
And I couldn't agree more on the last point. I like to know ahead of time and generally will not even get in line otherwise. I appreciate the discounting, but I am not one to haggle to the last dollar, especially not with a line behind me.
Perhaps I can scoot by over lunch in the next few days.
