Okay, so I've read this thread and went to the provided links.  All electronics has some of the wire I need, but not all.  I need some that is a bit larger, say 14awg in various colors.  I also need quite a few connectors (spade, butt, quick connects, etc).  My question is, where is the best source for this stuff?  I know I can get them at Home Depot and auto parts stores (because I have in the past), but is there somewhere online that has better deals for the wire and connectors?

Thanks

-Mike

OGR offers wire, only comes in #14 & 16, but very nice wire for power. Have also seen a lot of folks post here that they have used wire from Home Depot. I have purchased connectors from Home Depot also. Digi-key has extremely reasonable shipping rates for small stuff and is very fast at shipping also, I have even gotten stuff the next day.

Wish OGR would offer their wire in #18, #20 & #22 in 2 and 3 or 4 conductor...HINT to OGR moderators!

Moonman: Checked out your link to DelCity, I see they even have LARGE wire for paralleling 2, 3, or 4 PH-180's   Terminal and track connections could be a problem though. Wouldn't want to have to purchase more than a foot or two of that! (This was meant just to refer to the large size wire, please don't anyone actually try it!)

Seriously, I am going back to check out their multi conductor stuff, haven't found any I really like yet. Thanks for the link, looks promising. Also going back to read the thread Mike (OP) posted.

Thanks guys.

I found quite a bit of wire on DelCity, I think all but one color/size combo that I need.  Too bad they didnt come in smaller spools.  I started going through the connector list and they were higher quantities too, probably a lot more than I'd need.  So.... I tried Allied Electronics that John posted and found a lot on there for a reasonable price.  Haven't made it to the others..... yet.

rtr12,
Going off topic, but I've read it before (what does paralleling the bricks mean?).  Also, I will check out the wire from OGR.

Thanks!

Mike

Wire is usually cheap on ebay, but a lot of times you need to buy it in bulk (500' spools) to get the best price.

Overbuying wire usually isnt a bad thing, as you usually end up needing more than you think.

Del City has good prices on ring and fork terminals, I usually get them from there.

If I remember right, Del city sells wire as short as 25' spools. Decent for one stop shopping, but the prices on wire at home depot (as long as you dont buy it cut by the foot) are not too bad.

It means tying them all together to make one huge power feed. Some here have mentioned tying 2 of them together (20 amps - 4 would be 40 amps). I was inspired by the 4/0 welding lead they offered on the wire site referenced.

Gosh, I hope no one takes that seriously, as it was not meant to be, better go back and edit that a bit, wouldn't want anyone to actually try it.

I have the OGR wire, and I think it is quite nice for layout power.

You can get #12 and/or #14 stranded copper wire in 100' or 500' spools, ideal for railpower wire runs in at least 4 colors counting black, white, red and green at Lowe's or Home Depot. Unless you can get it wholesale at Grainger, Graybar, etc, you can't beat the box store price.

Automotive and Industrial Fastener Distributors will sell you over the counter at prices competitive with the box stores. They typically carry 9 different colors in the #12,#14,#16,#18 range and 50' to 500' rolls. They also have T-strips and an wide variety of spade and ring lugs, shrink wrap, etc. My town [Greensboro]has two such distributors: Automotive Fasteners, Inc. and Piedmont Fasteners,Inc. that readily sell over the counter to non-professionals.

As Boilermaker1 said above, you usually end up needing more than you think.
