seems like the more I run this big boy the better the stacks smoke and the steam whistle works! or maybe it was because I had the original lionel legacy engines 765 and my 4436 daylight and the 3751 atsf running at same time seems like they all were smoking well hmmm competition maybe?

I will admit the big boy will cost more in smoke fluid man this beast is thirsty!  I have discovered if I set smoke stack to medium setting the steam whistle effect is visible as when in high smoke I really have to look to see if it is working.

even though the real big boys never had smoke synced to each set of drivers I have to admit it is a pleasant sight will have to set it to both stacks smoke at same time just to see what that is like.

at least the 0-72 minimum curve also allows freight cars to run behind it as well without any issues. the only thing lionel could have done for us would be to have included the swinging bell feature maybe the next release if one is ever done again but this one still is a home run for those of us able to pay the asking price.

I hope you all are enjoying your big boy as much as I am.

I would certainly hope not, as neither the UP FEF class of 4-8-4s, nor the Challenger 4-6-6-4s, nor the 4000 class 4-8-8-4s ever had "swinging bells". The bell was fixed with an air operated internal clapper.

well how about that sorry seems I am not up to speed on the big boy and bell.

but what say a new feature for the big boy having the clapper in the bell pivot in a release?

now all the folks at lionel will have something new to figure out how to make that happen!

Hot Water maybe the next big vision line offering will be one of the engines you would like to see made!

so I have to ask would you purchase one? just asking is all.

Nice sentiment, St. Paul. It is also nice to learn that this engine is more than living up to your expectations. Lionel did a great job with this new BB. Hope this continues for many years to come.

not only do I enjoy it so does my wife she loves trains as much as I do and this is actually her engine she loves steam engines smoky air and all!

now how lucky can a guy be than that!

what size curves do you run yours on?

Probably nothing, as I already have most of the big articulated steam locomotive models that I previously desired. Besides I am more of a fan of the Sunset/3rd Rail highly detailed brass models anyway. I actually prefer my Sunset/3rd Rail UP #4023 over any others on the market, plus it fits the early to mid 1950s era that I model.
