Spent Christmas with our daughter and family in Williamsburg, VA.  Got back Saturday and the train shop has eight repairs for me. Priority though was having five of the littlest Grandchildren over for a sleepover movie night and train running.  Then had a Thanksgiving type feast and family gathering at our youngest son's house on New Year's Day.

Today, tomorrow, Saturday are for train repairs.  The cold air (forecast zero tonight) and snow (forecast 4-8 inches) won't interfere.

I feel sorry for you guys up north, as I have been through a few bad snow storms too. Forget what year(between 1963 & 1968) the state of Connecticut had a really bad snow storm but power was out for a few days and I remember my mom cooking at the fireplace in Stratford CT. Also had to sleep near the fireplace to keep warm.

I remember shoveling snow in north Reading PA(Muhlenberg Township) during the early to mid 1970's, it's no picnic!

Even went through hurricane Andy in August of '92, no electric power for seven weeks! No air conditioning for almost three months as A.C. units had to be replaced.

Sort of like me, I can go to the beach today as it is near 75 in sunny West Palm Beach FL.

You guys up north can send us some cold weather as we are having overnight lows of 71, sometimes even 76 for an overnight low temp. Daytime high may get up to 78 today.

Well,

I pretreated my driveway with a de-icer.   My Kubota with a 60" snowblower is primed and ready.  Since the weather people here in Pittsburgh are pushing the storm arrival time back,I am hoping for a minimal impact.  I will be ready

Since our Christmas Tree is still up and lighted,I will probably run my pink standard guage 408E for a bit.  Incidentally,my wife, sister, and niece think that this pink set is the coolest train set ever.

My MOW crew has Jordan snow spreaders ready to go. Back-up crews are on stand-by. The Yard Master has emergency heat for the the switches. The brass has issued rum for the night trick, when the snow will intensify into blizzard conditions. Contingent plans have been made to re-route trains, should there be wash-outs. Yes, we are ready.

I was in New York/Westchester county, for the holidays with family and friends. The plans where to stay until Friday the 3rd but I had  to get out yesterday. Do back to work Monday did not want to get stuck. I wish I could have stayed for the snow storm always like a good snow storm when it lands on a weekend. Every buddy up north enjoy and BE SAFE ON THE ROADS

Lee, I am from Stratford and remember those storms. I have friends in West Palm.

It is cold here in the upper midwest, about 6 above right now and going below zero tonight. Feel for the train road crews that have to work out in it tonight. We dont have a lot of snow, maybe 12-14" on the ground all in small lifts. THE STORM HITTING THE eAST IS COMBINING the storm that has blown through here and the rain storm that has moved up the eastern seacoast. We are looking at days next week where the high will not get above zero. Suppose the rails will get tested a bit.

I don't know who or why little storms started getting names.  I decided to check out the Weather Channel for storm news.  They showed the maps & predicted amounts of snow for the Hercules storm, that's the name.  8"-12" in some spots and 12" to 16" in others.  That is just a dusting of snow for Alaska & they don't name anything up here.  Our "storms" don't even make the Weather Channel.

LOL..Bumblebee

I hurried up and did my plowing so I could work on the layout.  In order to do that I had to move a few engines, and that turned into a day of running trains…..
Oh well, I think it’s going to be a long winter!!!

Stay Warm…

When they thought it made things sound super exciting and dangerous, so we'd stay glued to the TeeVee.

I get my weather reports off the net.  The Hysteria Channel has gotten much too silly for my taste.

It seems the Hysteria Channel decided to name winter storms on their own. It's not "official" like cyclones which are globally handled by the various government weather agencies.

when did the weather guys start naming every little storm to come by? plus the price of gas in bucks county jump 12 cents from the morning.

Are you sure that gas price jump wasn't our new Pa State gas tax that went into effect Wednesday?

As for me, all I need is this monster:
