Unlike Jim I didn't miss this thread the first time around but had forgotten about it.  I too am glad it has been resurrected.

Here's part of the fleet waiting for a layout to float on.  The two on the left are wooden waterline kits produced by Woodcrafter Kits under the Basic Boat line.  The red one, which also appears on Arnold's layout is a dragger and the white one is a shrimpin boat, according to Bubba.  I also have a lobster boat waiting for assembly.  They're pretty simple and fun to build and decorate.  I've added life boats to the cabin roof and cleats I found at a LHS.  The LEGO boats are a good size and will fit in the harbor, just have to keep the Minifigures out of sight.  They make Homies look undernourished.  I've got some others I'll fish out and post later.

well, here at work, took a break and only have this one photo of an super embellished kit of the VIC 56 behind MEC #951 to add. This will become a salvage ship in a canal or bay on a future layout. So right now it’s in dry dock! It has a full interior plus the appropriate lighting. I have yet to finish the channel marker.

Here's the rest of my fleet.

The fully rigged tall ship is a whaler and the other is "Old Ironsides",  the U.S.S. Constitution.  I'm not sure if they need to meet Jim's band saw or if I'll use some pink foam in the harbor so I can recess keel and hull to an appropriate water line.  The small sail boat and the Cape Cod lobster boat are some of those souvenirs we've picked up along the way, a red LEGO speed  boat and a Christmas ornament cabin cruiser.

Here we have the lobster boat kit I mentioned in a previous post and a USCG Rescue Boat model kit.

I saw this tugboat in  the toy store in Duke of Gloucester Square at Colonial Williamsburg.  Growing up in he Bronx I remember seeing the Moran and McAllister tugs plying the harbor every time we ventured into Manhattan so of course the M. Moran called to me.  This was made by the Baltimore Boatbuilding Company and is a hardwood representation of the second M. Moran built in 1900.  Since that M. Moran was replaced in 1912 it would have flown a 48 star flag but at 33 scale feet long scale fidelity went out the window but it still came home with me.

Arnold, I used the same technique as Bill, toilet paper and diluted white glue.  I got the idea from Marklin of Sweden on YouTube.  Here is a link:

Dan, thanks for sharing the YouTube link, which I found to be fascinating. I will try to use that technique when I get going constructing my river. Arnold

I have been looking for a 1/48 to 1/64 scale water line tugboats.  Don't need a lot of detail and don't want anything hard to build, and I'd like to find one that doesn't cost as much a semester in college.

here are links to the 2 waterline tugs,   reasonable prices,  great details, easy to build,   most details cast into the parts.

I love this subject. In fact, what many of you folks don't know is that in my local train club, the Railboys, my nickname is Tugboat A.

I love marine railroading. Three years ago, I got hooked, and since then I bought 3 Lionel Tugboats (only one of them fits on my layout and the other two are on a shelf), and a bunch of barges and other boats that I purchased from a highly skilled modeler, John Flaherty, who was a vendor at the Big E.

I also made a river using Mod Podge and other things for my boats and barges.

Below are a few photos of the sections of my layout that I call my Marine Railroad.  Most of these photos have been posted on the Forum before.
