There have been several topics recently that have mentioned boiler, tender, and mux boards. I only have three MTH steam engines and fortunately they have not given me any problems so I haven't opened them up to see what's inside. Can someone explain what these boards are and what they do? I have a PS3 upgrade kit and it didn't come with any of these other boards.

Hello Ken,

Protosound 3 Steam engines shipped from MTH have two boards, 1 for the tender and 1 for the engine. These boards communicate with each other using the 6 pin wireless draw bar.

The PS3 upgrade kits are more like the traditional setup with a single board (Diesel) or stacked board (Steam). The Diesel boards have a 40 pin connector and an 8 pin connector (track power & motor power). The steam boards look almost the same as the older PS2 upgrade boards and are designed to use a 10 pin wired tether.

The MUX board is used in earlier PS2 steam engines to add an additional light control. if you want to get technical about it GGG did a nice write up here about how the MUX board works: https://ogrforum.com/...34#16212591150604334
