I have two sets of NYC Pullman Heavyweight Passenger cars whose metal trucks and couplers have broken. One truck was broken before I unpacked it.  The coupler broke the first time I used the car.  is this common? I have 50 year old Lionel cars with no such problems.  Does Lionel pay for the replacement of the obviously defective parts used on these cars?

I own these same cars. The trucks are prone to zinc pest and will deteriorate over time. Lionel has been aware of this for several years and has chosen not to address it. Your only recourse is to wait for the Lionel 50% off parts sale and stock up.

My credit card shows the Lionel parts sale was Sep 27 last year.  I've got my list ready and trucks and couplers are at the top.

These cars are notorious for this problem. I have a 4-car set of the Alton Ltd. heavyweights and two 4-car sets of the Southern Crescent heavyweights from the 2012 time period (these came out with the matching Pacific engines Lionel made at the same time), and at least half of trucks on these cars have zinc pest and have parts that crumbled. Haven't figured out what to do yet, unless some later models have trucks that can be used.  Lionel has been out of the replacement trucks for these cars for years, obviously because so many people had problems with them. POTRZBE, what trucks do you have on your order list?
