I've thrown another traction tire on my 3rdrail Niagara. Looking for advise from those who have used this stuff. Easy to apply works well in the groves ofthe wheels where the traction tire was, etc, etc

Hi Gary, in my experience although it does what it is supposed to do, it does not hold up for long under the weight of O scale stuff. great for HO.
For a more permanent fix, I replace traction tires (fill the grooves) with silicone rubber sealant. I can send you instructions and some photos. My email is in my profile.

I've used it. It works well. You can also buy this plastic goo at Home Depot and similar places that is made to "plastic coat" the handles of pliers and such. It works just as well. I put on three coats and its really a good traction tire.
Dennis and Lee,
What's the name of the respective sealant/coating?
Do the job right and replace a tire with a tire. Roll the tire on the wheel and do not treat it like a rubber band.
Yes. I believe Bullfrog Snot is intended for use with old trains that do not have traction tires, not as a replacement for traction tires.

I use Bullfrog Snot on all of my MTH locomotives when a traction tire is lost. It out performs traction tires any day.
...keep the rails polished...
One great thing about the hobby is everyone can do what they want. Have fun and do what you want. NCT, it does not and it does not last long. This is a great world as people can have a different opinion from someone else. I have been running and fixing trains for a long time and I have seen this product after it gets into diesel gears. I have a few friends that I consider serious operators and they stay clear of such things. I want everyone who uses shortcuts to tires to enjoy and have fun running your trains.

That's the key isn't it. Not to stretch it while installing it.
On another note I've emailed 3rdrail to see if they have the traction tires just for ha ha.
Dan986, What is that track behind the tree?
