I bought the Lionel radio tower last weekend. It makes a neat static display, with a blinking red light on top. But it also is a functioning AM/FM radio. I might get one of those devices that let you play your iPhone through the radio and play clips from old radio shows. Found a "Little Orphan Annie" episode, complete with an Ovaltine commercial, that reminded me of the movie "A Christmas Story". Or I could play some 1950s rock and roll.
Jeff,
I bought one earlier this year. I also got a FM transmitter off the bay. You connect the transmitter to your favorite source, in my case an Echo Dot, and enjoy non stop Beatles music. I can even connect it to my ham radio station. Very cool.
Bill
That is cool, Jeff and Bill!

For me, not as young then as you guys. Memories flashing back remind me I was in my tenth year of teaching in '78.
The University of Alabama, getting my first bachelors degree (electrical engineering), and working as a DJ in a disco.

Bill, A DJ in a Disco! That’s great, Bill!
A little older than the classic turkey drop and you needed your own shirt.
I found these and thought I'd share. I had no idea that Lionel went "Soul Train" in 1975. Here's an iron on shirt decal and patches. As the pickers would say - new old stock. I found them in a box of Lionel catalogs that my father had stored away.

Speaking of quality control, it wasn't..."Turkey Drop"!
It was the"WKRP Turkey Giveaway"!!!
That makes the shirt "Turkey Droppings".

What s good wife!
If I trade instead of buy something cool does it go here?
I came home with this.... My wife had to help me take it out of the car.
I had to use hand trucks to move the two parts.
I need a real big pipe now. But how will I put it on the the pipe?
I did buy this though
American Flyer 8B transformer. Too cool.

Trades count for sure! That is how I acquired my Western Maryland Shay #6.
I knew you needed that crossbuck, Bill!
I have never seen a transformer like that one! Cool!
Bill, depending on your pipe size (standard is 4-1/2" inches) they are fastened with U bolts to the pipe. I'm sure you can make a smaller dia. pipe work and still use U bolts. Just dig a hole for the pipe and cement in place. Or take the pipe bracket off and just attach it to your train building. I have a lot of this kind of old RR stuff that I plan on displaying eventually, switch stands, and signals mainly. Oh, and I think I have the same transformer, too.

Great find Bill maybe use some post hole diggers plus it’s good exercise
Bill
Can you still get the marbles for the letters? You can also use a 4x4 post that’s what they still use here in the country where I live
Yes, Lee, you can still find the reflectors (it appears Bill's crossbuck has stimsonite reflectors) but, they can get pricey. Mine needed some and I finally found what I needed on ebay, for what I felt was a decent price.
Rusty
Glad y'all like my new toys. Lee, YES, I have located NOS cats eyes for $1.50 each. My wife said "order them now". I have post hole diggers and I know how to use them (hand them to a younger man). Rusty, I saw one in a post here on the forum. I searched the bay to learn what it was. I had to have one. It will replace my Lionel CW-80 for lighting my accessories. Anyone want a good used CW-80? I need to order some "eyes".
Bought some very thin Evergreen plastic rod material on eBay for a project and was shocked when it arrived in a 18" x 12" x 6.5" box stuffed with craft paper--all that for a skinny package of 14" long plastic rods:
All that packaging for an item with a total cost of less than $6.

Does the "Crossing" part have the same bracket on it's back as the "Railroad" part of the sign ?
Good evening Dan,
Both brackets are there. One original bolt for reference. Both sign halves are double sided. Only 54 broken or missing reflectors. I like honest patina on antiques. I will probably mount it next to the train building just like it is.
I agree, Bill! It will look best that way!
I Picked this up for my 4 year old nephew. It’ll be his Christmas gift this year and hopefully, a nice start on his journey to o gauge trains!

Every now and then, on a discussion regarding free speech or things you can or cannot say, I'll say "booger". Rarely do I get anyone that knows I'm quoting Dr. Johnny Fever.

Neat idea. I've got a Google mini, which doesn't have an audio output, but I can probably pick up a used Echo Dot if I decide to go that route.
I drive by a barn every now & then that has a set of crossbucks with 2 red lights mounted on the side of the barn. Every once in awhile he has the red lights blinking, very cool.

I watched the review and the manufacturer's short. It looks like there are a lot of possibilities!! That is really neat and would be a great addition to all the wooden track parts my wife has picked up at thrift stores for the grandchildren; if we ever have grandchildren. Thank you for posting!!!

I missed the 75th as I was 5 at the time, but I was a member of the Lionel fan club for a few years soon afterward, they used the same logo for that. I think I had one of their patches for a while. I have no idea when I stopped being a member, it's something I had actually forgot about until now.
Th Dorfan and other Pieces are new buys. And as you can see they aren’t shelf queens

Is the black consist "Standard Gauge"? They are all stunning.
Yes indeed. It’s the Black Brute set that only Lionel Club Members we’re privy to. It’s huge.
Bill. That’s the way I use them I’ve had my share of them here when I had a small farm. Glad you found the cat eyes
