  Just kidding about the collectability but who knows..... these are decent cars but I hate to say, I wish that they had a little better quality trucks. The CSX gondola's couplers won't stay closed but I've got some tiny black zip ties. I realize for the price they are a pretty good buy.

I'm not much of a collector but hoarding could be a different matter.....Having "discovered" Atlas O Sw8/9s (only 20-or-so years late) I find myself wanting moar.

Lew. Now your getting to my soft spot with that C&O switcher. What a beautiful engine and runs well also great find but be careful you may turn into a another Briansilvermustang lol

I have a prewar set and two 50's steamers coming to the mountain.  Film at 11:00.

Bill, they are Atlas O 3-rail. They run conventional variable voltage AC but do have early (Dallee) electronic reversing units with "sound" incorporated. The sound is a generic burbling more akin to an Alco than an EMD. The mechanism is a superb mid-motor drive with flywheels then u-joints to gear towers in the trucks. Here is a peek under the hood :

Those are 4700 mike caps to keep the sound going while cycling the throttle to change directions. It is a very smooth drive system greta for switching at slow speed. They are heavy engines because the only part not die-cast is the cab and cab floor. Frame, trucks, truck side frames and the hood are all metal. There is even an addition metal weight added under the cab floor (seen at the right end of the main frame).

     It was built from NW SD35 #1530. The cab was added in the past year, and it houses electronic    equipment for track testing, no actual locomotive controls inside.

Yes, it is a simple loop around the walls of a12 X 11 room. East End / West End industrial district makes it pretty much a switching pike.

I bought a Southern PS-4 Pacific 4-6-2 locomotive and tender (Lionel 6-11103), for a lot less than retail (on the Sell/Trade Forum), because the trucks on the tender had zinc disease and disintegrated. Engine is fine. I bought a set of trucks on which the tender sits, loose. Nice as long as I don't touch it -- and of course, I'm just displaying it. See attached photos, first of the disintegrated wheel assembles, of the engine and tender, and a close-up of the engine front.
