I'm not sure why, but recently my CAB-1 remote can't seem to get solid connection to the command base. The batteries in the remote are fine, and my wiring connections look in proper coordination. Still, the remote can't seem to address my TMCC and Legacy engines. Does any one know what the source of the problem could be or what the solution is?

Does the red base light flash when you enter a command?

No, it does not.
The batteries in the remote are fine,
seen this happen before, batteries need to be better then fine.
try a new set of batteries and lets us know.

Tested with new batteries, all four, and it didn't do any better than the prior batteries.
Some command bases drift off frequency when they age. They can be tuned back on frequency, but it takes some electronic knowledge and talent.
The easiest troubleshooting technique is to try a known good CAB-1 or a known good command base.
First, try another CAB-1. If same results with the second CAB-1, the command base is the problem. If the signal gets through, the original CAB-1 is the problem.
If you can borrow another command base, try that. If the original CAB-1 works with the second command base, the problem is in the original command base. If the signal does not get through with the second command base, the problem is in the original CAB-1.
Thomas bend your metal tabs out on your remote where the batteries goes in. I had to do that to the clubs cab 1 remote not making good contact.
Have seen some brands of batteries that were actually manufactured short in length.

I think this is the problem, as the remote makes the sounds that the buttons are trying to send the signal and the batteries are perfect life with the tabs in good position. So, I'm going to need help to get the command base's signal back to life.
It would be much better to troubleshoot the problem before guessing or shooting from the hip.
Well, I confirmed from my Lionel dealer that not only is the command base the problem (the remote worked as should with her base on for the display layout), but it's time to replace the older device with Legacy...*sighs*
or the cab1L
You could fix the command base or buy a used replacement base from someone else who bought Legacy.
Thomas,
If you have the money, invest in a Legacy, it runs everything great. I run both DCS & Legacy now and although the TMCC Cab1 is nice, the Legacy Cab2 is better!

Thanks Dave,
I think it is the way to go for the long term best results. I have been saving for the Legacy system anyways, since I have been purchasing more of the recent Legacy locomotives and want to unlock the most features from them all.
