Question - I found a shop that has a couple of the CAB1-L system, should i go for this or wait until the 990 system I guess it is,
comes available.

My opinion, would be to wait for the 990. I really like the display information that is provided as well as having the full remote.
However, it will be interesting to see what the new wifi and iPad/iPhone components bring into the mix.
Of course, if you have kids or friends, getting a cab1L to hold you over and then getting 990 and having two remotes wouldn't hurt either.

How are you going to use it? Do you have any Legacy engines, Are you only going to use it to work with DCS? Are you only interested in TMCC engines. How much in a hurry are you to get it?
The other offer good advice. I also have a 990 on order. My thoughts are if you have any Legacy items, I would wait for the 990. Unless you want a second controller or only plan to have TMCC, then the Cab-1L might be a good idea.
I'm waiting for the 990 as I don't have a need for a second controller just yet and I already have a DCS system.

As of now I am in the planning stages of this. All of my engines are MTH however; I am looking at a few different Lionel's. I want to operate them with my current DCS system. I am not in a hurry for the control systems, as mentioned just planning right now. I guess it makes sense to hold out for the 990.
I'd hold out
If you are in no hurry and do not have any Legacy items, I think waiting for the 990 is definitely the right thing to do. Someday you will be happy you waited.

Lionel offers the CAB1L base as a separate sale item. If all you want to do is operate Lionel command engines with the DCS system all you need is that and the cable to connect it to the TIU. I think the base alone sells for around $90.00 from several of the forum sponsors.
