I am having trouble creating "Custom Sound" files with the Remote or Proto-Dispatch microphone.

With an active engine on the track using the Remote Mic I hear my voice among some popping sounds when I press REC and the MIC button.  Sometimes I can press STP and SAV and have the opportunity to name the file.  When I press [D] I have a wait and then get the "OUT OF RF RANGE" message followed by "TIU NOT RESPONDING".  At this point I can no longer issue commands to the active engine either.  Attempting to issue a "RESET TIU" does not work but I can cycle power to the TIU to recover/start over.

Using the PROTO-DISPATCH Mic I hear my voice clearly from the engine but the rest of the results are the same.  It will not record my sound and the TIU stops responding to Remote Commands.

Any help much appreciated.

I tired it just an hour or so ago and see what  you mean. It' doesn't work very well however I did get it to  work using the Remote's mike.   The test track I used has a perfect dcs signal , I was able to record a short message and play it back. I think you're doing everything correctly but suspect  your  remotes mike button is sticking on. That pretty well locks up the whole works.

I don't have a external mike to try it... hopefully it  will work better than the remotes mike.

Thanks for trying it out Gregg.   Not sure if my Remote MIC button is sticking, will look at it some more.    I continued on experimenting and found that after I deleted all sound files and started over fresh, that I could successfully record from the Proto-Cast or Proto-Dispatch.  The Remote MIC seems to be very insensitive and even shouting into it, the output could barely be heard from the active engine.  So I'll settle for the Proto-Dispatch MIC.

What really bummed me out was when I figured out that the "Custom Sounds" could not be used during a session recording.  I was going to record a bunch of arrivals/departures and insert them in demo session.  I guess I'll just have to make those announcements live.

Dick,

What really bummed me out was when I figured out that the "Custom Sounds" could not be used during a session recording.

I haven't tried the following, however, it may work:

  • Record the Custom Sounds to be used in the session, before the session rather than during the session
  • While recording the session, play back the Custom Sounds that you previously recorded.

Let us know if this works.
