Hi All,

I'm stumped here.

Background:  I have an diesel engine that I upgraded to a Cruise Commander that originally had an older sound board from ERR.  It stopped responding to the remote for horn/bell/etc.  The running and lights work fine.

I just got a new Sound Commander and hooked it up - the same thing.  It only goes like it is in conventional even though I am using the stock cables that came with it.

Now it gets even weirder.  I put in a different Sound Board (steam) and it did the exact same thing.  Then I changed out the Cruise Commander with a different one that worked the last time I tried - including the R2LC.  Same thing.

I have this issue on another engine, but it has an older Mini Commander for small engines that should have sound capability (I wired it exactly like John did in the Plymouth post some time ago) and all I get is the engine sound at full power.

I'm stumped.

Has anyone else had this issue or knows how to fix it?

Let me add on. While the engine is in command, I found the sound board works as if it were conventional.  Here is a picture - I've made sure all is hooked up per the instructions. I will also say I've upgraded almost 30 engines without this problem.

Lastly, I did reprogram the engine (ENG -> 42 -> Set -> Aux1 -> 8).  I tried different Engine Numbers also.

Check the antenna.  I have a K-line GG1 that hates any changes to the antenna and just sits there in conventional only unless it is hooked up just like stock.  For the ERR make sure the antenna isn't looped or touching metal.   I have a couple of engines with ERR.    I glued a shrink wrap tube in the engine for routing the antenna.   Slides in the tube when assembling.

Well, I got it working.  So the Cruise Commander I had in the engine (both times) was Version 5 on the sticker on the board.  I took one out of another engine which was Version 8 and it started working fine.  Weird but ok.

Here is a video of the engine.  I'm modeling the Austin Steam Train Consist in Austin, at least by car road name.  I've got 3 more cars coming (Texas Special, NYC, and NKP).  That leaves me missing one car (California Zephyr - trying to find MTH 20-6645) which will complete the consist.
