Hey Folks,

I made a mold for a mountain out of heavy-duty cardboard, stapled the open bottom of the carboard to a sheet of plywood, cut holes in various places on the tops and side of the mold, and filled that sucker up with spray insulation foam until it was squirting out of the holes.   I am going to let it dry for 3 days before I pull off the mold, to make sure the foam has cured.

Before filling the mold up, I covered the inside surface with duct tape, so that the foam would not stick to the inside surface.

I understand that when I pull off the mold, I am then supposed to carve the irregular blob into a mountain.

But, I assume I will need a fairly long blade to do this.   A razor knife will not cut deep and long enough.

So, what type of knife or cutting tool are folks using to do this type of carving?

Thanks for all advice.

That foam will be hard in a couple of hours. It cures by chemical reaction, not dry time.

Not sure why you need to carve so deeply. I would have made the mountain closer to the shape you wanted, then just carved the surface to make it look like rock. I used foam board insulation for my mountains. I do most of my carving with a pocket knife. If I do need a deeper cut I use a fillet knife.
