The CBS Railroad has rebuild ex UP GP30 #839 in their shops.  The CBS is part owned by the UP,  A few years ago the CBS find out that the UP was going too sale off their GP30 engines and the CBS was wanting one for the CBS engine fleet. By the time CBS had contracted UP, UP had sold the engines to a scrapper.  UP worked out a deal with the scrapper for CBS to get a GP30 engine.

Ex UP GP30 #839 was shipped to the CBS shops. The locomotive came missing the engine and generator and other body parts in a gondola.  #839 was pushed to the back of the shop and gondola of parts unloaded next to it,  There it set for a few years.

Some  of the new shop employees asked about old #839. The shop superintendent give the "OK" for the "Young Bucks" to have a shot at putting old #839 back service.  The employees located a EMD 12-645F3B prime mover and a AR10 generator and rebuilt the traction motors to D78 standards. The young employees built a computer program to manage the engine and locomotive.  The 645 prime mover has a normal horsepower rating of 2500 HP but the horsepower is variable from 2300 to 2800 HP, the computer program controls the horsepower for different ambient and engine temperatures (more HP in cold weather and less in hot weather).

The CBS Railroad would like the thank following employees for all of their hard work get #839 back on the road. Computer team, Earl, Rick and Richard and the locomotive team Tim, Mike, Caden and Cody.
