While helping OGR set up for the York show I was informed that this morning the Eastern Division said it is now allowing cell phones to be used in all halls. I guess someone was listening to us. An announcement will be made prior to the opening of the show. Please be courteous to other if you use your phone.

WOW I'm shocked!
Are you sure Eddie didn't pick up the mike for fun?
Amazing news. Did the earth shift on its axis?
I heard that the rule has been modified with a few new rules......
- You may not speak when actually using a cell phone.
- If you dial, you must use a toe or your elbow - no fingers
- All ring tones must set to play the TCA Eastern Division's theme song (but no one know s what it is)
Me, make this up..... never
Are you sure this isn't a late April Fools joke?
hey, its on the internet so it must be true
First cellphone I ever used. Borrowed it from work. Walked down the fairway on a golf course making a call on it. Man, did I think I was cool!
I'm thrilled and shocked

Yeah good luck with that... I'm fine either way so the impact on me is minimal until some turd is gabbing and blocking the aisle. Then it's clobberin' time! I just came back from NAB last week and it was like navigating an asteroid belt.
Please be courteous to other if you use your phone.

And I am making my first call from inside the Orange Hall to you, Alex!
You may use your cell phone but please follow the arrows on the floor while pushing your baby stroller full of trains!
I just hide mine in the baby carriage.
Does this mean you can take photos?
Oh My God!!! If this is true, what in blue h e l l will there be to complain about?!
The silence on this forum will be deafening!! It will be empty (except for Eddie's countdowns). Listen for the crickets!!
If we are allowed to use cell phones in the halls, that's when no one will use them.

Don't worry. Folks will find something else to criticize and complain about.
I agree should open at 9am Thurs and not 12noon. 90% of the people are already in York.

All i seem to be doing is tripping over people yackin' away on their cell phones, something has to be done!
I do not own a cellphone. I have a small hand-held computer that has voice communication feature......

Some people!

Gotta say, I think this is a bad move by the TCA. Now there will be 1000 jerks yelling into their phones trying to talk over the crowd and guys standing in the middle of the isle blocking everyone while they chat away.

It's already started. There's a guy who started another thread complaining about the requirement to wear a badge holder so the badge can actually be seen.

Still waiting for Eddie G's response. Popcorn on standby.
Made and received my first York cell phone calls today in the Oragne Hall. What an out of body experience <G>.
And you know what....my being on the phone didn't even disrupt the aisle traffic flow!
I'll bet many peoples' (myself included) "first call" in a York hall will be similar to their "first drink" on their 21st birthday. Suuuure
Not to put too fine a point on it, but the announcement at opening over the PA system did not actually say that cell phones were permitted, and it did not say that the rule has been rescinded.
What the announcement said was that the no-cell-phone-rule would not be enforced. Small point perhaps, or perhaps not. It means that the rule is still on the books, but not being enforced for this meet at the discretion of ED.
Sure enough, a half hour into the day, there was some klutz standing in the middle of an aisle in the silver hall, yelling loudly into his cell phone and completely oblivious to the row of people piling up trying to get by him. Clueless. I don't have a position one way or the other on cell phones in the halls, but you gotta laugh.
The self-apponted hall monitors seem to have moved on to fanatical enforcement of the yellow arrow direction; I have never seen so many people yelling at other people to follow the arrows. Gotta yell at people for something i guess.
Enjoy the show.
Interesting...I've been in the Orange hall all day...in fact I am posting this from the hall. I have not seen any difference in the overall behavior, activity and movement of the crowd in the hall with the suspension of the cell phone rule.

I agree. But to be honest I'm not sure everyone is even aware of the rule change. As long as everyone can be curtious I don't think they'll be an issue.
I hate cell phones. I hate the rude behavior of folks on cell phones. I hate seeing the goofy ear pieces and people talking about dumb stuff I have to hear. Why, oh why, can't anyone stay off the dumb things anymore. I leave mine off most of the time. They, in my opinion, are severe distraction from life. I long for the days before we all had to be connected to this dumbness and related to each other as humans. Ban them...please.. ban them to save my sanity. What the heck...how in God's name can we live without being slave to another box of electronics from China (Now at York).
John,
i totally agree with your comments on cell phones. We used to joke about teen-age girls being on the phone all the time. Now, it seems everyone does it. I guess we have become a nation of teen-age girls.

Something strange happened all the way down here to Philly around noontime. Knocked me off my feet, it did. Now I know.
But what should we ask for next? I know, Bouncing Baby Strollers!!
Bill
I walked the halls all day today. Saw a few calls being made and made a couple myself. Never saw anyone being inconsiderate or any issue with the rule change.
I received 2 calls to coordinate location with another forum member. Each call was less than 20 seconds. Was nice to not have to run outside and I made sure I was not in anyone's way. There was no perceptible high use and no one I saw getting "drunk" on the fact that they could talk and not get tossed out.
